~~~Terrain Defense~~~


Ok this idea just popped into my head and now i must make this map. The premise is i have a 256x256 map with varied and intricate terrain. An area is cordoned off for the players to build units and (possibly) mine minerals. a horde of units spawns at the top and works it way through the terrain to the bottom. The players must find and defend tactically advantageous areas (i.e. choke points or high ground) to destroy the larger force. Units carry from level to level.

Post your thoughts or suggestions!

Also I might limit it to only ground units or have the only air unit be detectors and transports.

All 3 races will be available.

Yay! A new kind of defence! So, what kind of layout are you going to do? IG: Badlands, Space Platforms, Artic, Desert.

Can't wait for this to come out!

It's just like a siege + melee map. Not exactly original, but sounds fun.

I think it would be even better if the enemy units attacked your units, to make that terrain useful for protection when engaging the enemy.

Yes the plan was that the computers units attack you with much greater forces so you have to use the terrain or get hosed.

plus its not just terrain A LOT of it is extended terrain some of which i'm rather proud of biggrin.gif

not as of yet since i haven't even started the triggering and i'm without the map and starcraft where i am right now. i'm going to go to the store and get it and i'll get the map mailed to me and then work will recommence


here is a little data i can leak:
players are 5 humans 3 comps
i havent decided wether to do a kill based money system or not.
not a massive scale like other defense maps so CCMU won't be a problem (hopefully)
Starforge corrupted my map and i'm rather pissed off.
All 3 races are in the game but each player only gets one race.
The enemy won't attack with just one unit type heh heh

It don't take that long to do terrian, most maps i've made were 256 x 256, i did the terrain in about 2 hours, but about another day to make it all extended.

I think you should do it so that each player gets a certain amount of money to spend each level. Makes it more fair, so that the people at the end dont get left out.

i'm thinking that you have like 3 SCVs that are mining and you get gas for kills.
gas can be spent on things like heros or special powers (Dont ask what i dont kno)
suggestions would be nice biggrin.gif

This looks like it could be very cool, I assume that you units are not invincible and that enemy forces will attack you a-la raccoon city?
If so, I can suggest a few interesting ideas for special powers.
An interesting power would be one that toggled invinciblity for all a player's units, so they would only be attackable occasionally. Being able to create some kind of special blockade unit, one with a lot of health, would be nice too for a "hero"
A spell that would probably mess things up, but would be very cool, would be to cause all enemy units within a certain area to junkyard dog, thus making them easy targets.

i'm not going to alter the unit settings at all. This is very different from raccoon city since the enemies aren't endless hordes of the same unit. the invincibilty if probably too powerful but the junkyard dog idea might work.
