History Lesson -=The Battle of Carrhae=-
The whole point of the map I am currently working on is to teach a history lesson. I will probly make many maps of this kind. The first one will be over The Battle of Carrhae that occured in 53 BC. It is gonna be a movie map which shows the formations and tactics used during the battle. One Unit in the Map will equal 10 soldiers and with this first battle the map will almost reach the unit limits. As of yet I am still debating if I should have text commentary or voice. I am currently leading towards voice. The maps terrain I will try my hardest to reflect the terrain of where the battle was fought. In a day or two I will post a few screen shots and some of the ingame voice commentary I will do and you can tell me if you will like it or not. I am not gonna post information of the battle because it would ruin the point of the map.

Depends on how big the file sixe is for the map.

Personally, I would like to have voice. It could add good atmosphere if you do it right. But, you could also destroy it if you do a bad job of presenting it. (As in, if you have a bad voice((Reading wise)) then you ruin the feel for the map).

I hope to see those screenies. And, I would love to see this map.

Good Luck...

P.S.
If you need a tester, I would love to help you out... I love history!

OFF TOPIC: You love history? Wow, I never knew anybody who loved history excepts my teachers.
Well, I don't hate history, but it's not that intresting. I only like wars and stuff. A girl in my class actually slept through it. that's cool.gif !!!!

ON TOPIC: What a oringinal map idea! Bnet never had a history map, so this will be a good contributation to bnet! IMO, you shouldn't make too many of these maps or people at bnet will think that bnet has turned to education.... But hey! This is just my opinion!

I prefer Red Rampant for my Roman Military history and my collection I bought from the history channel of Decisive Battles(For some reason History channel don't even have that show or the videos available for sale anymore). O well the map will still serve a purpose to help illustrate the formations and show how the tactics actually worked. Tonight at around 11pm CST I will post some screens and some voice commentary clips. O yea on Wikipeda under the Indepth Description I added that link which leads to Red Rampant which is good Roman Military History site.

Woohoo go Bringer. I never thought of you as much of a History person, but hey, so am I. I can't wait for this map to come out, I'm more into the World Wars, so it'll be cool to learn about the Romans and such. Good luck with the map.

Yea I love history though I am debating of switching and teaching the Roman Military First instead of a battle. Plus the battle of Carrhae is being stubborn lol and still debating how to do the Horse Archers. Here is a small clip I have done now it is far from perfect just a few takes I kinda stutter and it drops in volume sometimes because I have to read the names because I can not pronounce them right yet with out looking at them. Tell me what I could fix in this small sample clip of the commentary.

Edit: Attached Audio file of commentary of what it will be like if I teach about the Roman Army instead. Tell me what you think I will work on them and update them later when I have improved them.

Edit2: Speak louder hmm not what I am going for right now just working on it. When I do the one that I know for sure work then It will be a nice volume. Sucks maybe as of now but practice makes perfect.

Definitely have text commentary. If you want to have voice commentary IN ADDITION to text commentary, if you can ensure that the file size doesn't become unwieldy, and if you are sure you'll achieve sufficient quality of narration, then go for it; it's just that not everyone plays with sound on. Besides, text commentary is easier to work with and more universally understandable.

I'd rather have the voice idea. People are too lazy to read even text in RPG's what makes you think they'll read every word in a huge EDUCATIONAL map.

Not many people like history everyone and my school hates it but i would love to play it. How many computer slots are there. Wanna make sure a lot of people play it at one time;)

I agree with Sniper, but the voice would probably limit the amount of human players, because of the huge DL//Lag. People hate History at my school because it is so hard specifically 10th Grade World History. They had a test over the Summer Reading Book "Guns, Germs and Steel" The teacher had to curve the grades 30 points because the highest grade was 51.

No one ever did mention if I should do the battle first or teach the Republic and Imperial formations of the Roman Army and some of the tactics they used along with some of thier enemies tactics. Voices is better and how I figured it was that most people will not want to learn history so only those who do will watch the movie map. I will probly lower the quality of the voice so its only around 500kb's for a minute worth of talking and then SC will compress it once you put it into the map making it around 200kbs-400kbs.

Votes for Battle First.

I don't think it would be much to watch the battle formations. But, hey if you can incorporate them into an SC map. I'll be sure to watch it.

Just go with text, because what if some person accidentally went on the USeast channel and was from asia?

Are you talking, or are you downloading some voices?
