I've been wondering for a while how any sort of culture came to be and it occurred to me that most of the larger cultures were created out of religion and ended up breaking away from it. But there would have to be other ways of creating a culture, as we can see today there have been cults created out of peoples insane thoughts from new religious groups to suicide cults to sex cults. But most of these groups have failed or dwindled down over time.
I thought that maybe science could create a culture, it helps run ours today, and in the past they did not know what it is so they could not create anything out of it. There is some proof that science could possibly create one. Numerous cults that did fairly well created far into the past that were founded off of different magics (which could be considered the closest thing they had to science), although most of these were tied in with religion as well.
I am trying to find out what else could possibly create one other then religion. What do you think could create a culture and do you have any proof for it?
