As you guys have probably heard. New Orleans is currently under water because of Hurricane Katrina. I've heard today that 1,000s are dead and about 10,000+ are inside the Louisiana SuperDome. What do you guys think about this tragic disaster?

i think its a very bad disaster. I mean the whole city is underwater and so many people are dead its so terrible sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif oh and isnt mississippi flooded too?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Atreyu) on 2005-08-31 at 18:26:24
Not really because the eye hit mississippi but it is flooded in some parts, but the things they call "leveas" are broken in New Orleans thats why its flooding EVEN more and more and its going to keep flooding until its even with the ocean.

I almost got hit my katrina. While it was on our way here, I clearly remember people saying the hurricane wasn't gonna be anything. And they had room to say it at the time, cause it was barely a catagory 1 when it 1st hit land fall over here in florida. I live in south west florida, and we barely got any rain.

I feel sorry for the people there. But only 1,000 dead? I remember someone giving me an estimate of almost 20k. 1,000 ain't blam. This isn't a tragic disaster, it's just your average disaster. A tragic disaster would be the tsunami, or another pauly shore movie.

I heard mississipi got hit a lot harder then New Orleans did. My sistor goes to college in New Orleans and had to evac out of there before the hurricane hit. Not all of New Orleans is under water though, just about 80 percent or something.

I hope all my sister's stuff isn't ruined cause she only had time for a carry on bag to bring, all the rest of her stuff she stored on the second floor of her dorm.

I wonder if we will get forgien aid from this massive disaster confused.gif

I doubt they'd be able to sign on, the phones are pretty dead out there.
Also, I have a friend who I saw this summer...and he goes to collage in New Orleans. I'm hoping he didn't go down or he evacuated...

They both got hit hard I think mississippi got hit harder but because New Orleans is below sea level it is worse

New Orleans has been playing Russian Roulette every summer. It seems that this time, their luck has run out, and the bullet shot them straight in the head. Not really the greatest place to stick a big city. Not that it matters - the Gulf coast is entirely devasted. And to think this was supposed to be a "minor" hurricane when it first arrived.

mississippi did get hit worse because the eye was right on it but since New Orleans is under sea level its still getting filled and filled with water

You may have heard the estimates for a single county in Mississipii or something. A lot of counties are estimating at least 100 dead each. Add up all the counties in those states, and you get an impressive number.

I live in Oklahoma. I'd take a tornado any day of the week over a hurricane like that. I feel bad for the people there and I've already donated to charity. I just can't imagine losing your house, your neighborhood, your city, your personal stuff, EVERYTHING! Not knowing if your family/friends made it out alive. No food, clean water, shelter, healthcare, plumbing, etc. It's all so depressing.

On the news there was the story of one women who was in michigan and ready to move back with her family when the hurricane hit and she hasn't talked to anyone there yet
Now that would be terrifying

98% of the deaths in this were from stupid people. Why are there so many retards that ignore mandatory evacuation orders?

it was jus a very horrible thing to happen. so many tree fell down on power lines which are gona disable use of almost all (including hospital energy or when some1 needs medical care badly u can rly call on ur phones(unless u got cell phones)) of wat we use in our homes and trees on cars which are gona cause trouble to get to shops and the wind and blown alot of the broken window glass of the streets so that also may cause problems with traveling.

I heard cell phones don't work either right now. At the moment New Orleans is a dead city, almost a war zone. Looting is at an extreme high, Prisoners were released and are in the city right now, gangs have looted gun shops and have armed them selfs, roaming the streets, the police cannot protect the city at the moment, neither can the national gaurd becuase they are trying to resque people in the extreme danger areas.

Now there are some people who are looting for good reasons, such as finding clean food and wwater, but others are after T.V.s and such.

New Orleans won't be a functioning city for months...

Many are stupid yes, but I heard some simplelycouldn't leave for one reason or another (no car, no place to go, no money, etc)

We can expect many, many more deaths in the near future from disease and such...

Report, edit, etc...Posted by Atreyu) on 2005-09-01 at 09:51:01
Alot of these deaths are because people decided to stay back because they are retarted and thought nothing bad was going to happen...now look they are probably barried under water and rubble right now.
