Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2005-09-08 at 00:01:32
I'm brain storming here. Bare with me.

I was thinking if we can have editing section leaders. This is how it works.

One intellegent, ethusastic individual would be in charge of a "editing section". Editing Sections are ums/melee/modding. So we'd have 3 of them. Here are their abilities:

- Moderate all forums of that class, plus read most of the things in there, mostly in the showcase/production areas.
- Give advice to Yoshi if and when he needs it for that section.
- Organize contests.
- Notify Yoshi if there are large projects and quality projects coming out, so he can make the proper news posts.
- (v5 Possibility) Help manage and maintain their sections in the DLDB and tutorials database by having the power to edit, delete and approve content.
- Be the offical "guy to ask" about big situations involving their section, like a new forum, or feature suggestion. The editing leader will then pass it on to Yoshi if he thinks it's a good idea.

The idea of this, is that we find people who are a lot smarter and knowledgable then me in these areas to help improve quality of these sections. I sometimes feel that melee and modding people are in a disadvantageous situation, since I know all about UMS and I've basically created the site around UMS (and it still remains to be the biggest section here). I can then make informed decisions and better content for those sections by having these extra brains help me out.

I don't see anything wrong with it. How do you intend on picking the 'leaders?'
Report, edit, etc...Posted by RexyRex on 2005-09-08 at 00:10:48
I like it, but there's not much for me to comment on.
I'll just nominate people I think are good. wink.gif

ADDITION:
Hm.
I can't think of any downsides, but there aren't very many plusses. mellow.gif

I'll make seperate topics for each section and news post it. Then people can apply for each one (for multipule if they want). From there, I will look into the background and requests of these people (you have NOTHING to lose from applying). I will then choose the top x people and put them in a poll if needed. You don't have to post a lot, you just gotta know what you're doing and be able to keep up with whats happening in your section.

They will essentially be my additional eyes, as I have no idea what happens in those areas now, due to the fact that all the sections get a high numer of posts. Someone with time to evaluate people can easily find the best maps and mods, tell me about them, which I will news post it, and in special cases if said by the leader (it has to be a REALLY special map), I'll make a flash intro preview on it to put it on the front of the site. However I will only do Maximum 2 of these per month, more likely just 1.

It takes too much time for me to analyize people and try every section and read every comment. I simply just can't. I know there are people out there right now that are doing that and know what they're talking about when it comes to these sections, so I figured, why don't they just help me out?

It's better for the site, because they will have my ears open for any suggestions related to the section that people want, plus it'll be on the front page more.

If you can find good people, obviously it's awesome.

I'll have a nomination topic for people who you like to deal with as well. Remember these are the peope who will be representing your sections to make sure you nominate when the time comes (but you can't nominate someone who doesn't want to participate).

Nominations will have a good factor in who becomes a leader, but only if the person is dedicated and intellegent.

Greatest part! I might finally not be alone in doing the DLDB tongue.gif

Something like the old map team poll? That would work nicely.
I voted yes, it's great, because this would severly help the modding + melee portions of the site.

Flash is overdoing it, but an extended map spotlight would be interesting.

Isn't there like 3 other people helping you?

Map spotlight can be extended by popularity and rate of submittions via those sections. 3 for ums, 2 for melee, and 1 for modding, is some good slots.

ADDITION:
Oh yes, I'll see if in v5 if they can get extended moderator privledges, maybe ability to ban people from any forum in their section, and such.

Where it says 'forum lead by', maybe add another line above it saying 'Section managed by" in #FFFFFF (not gray) to give it special attention?

BeeR's last help was 5-6 weeks ago and I haven't seen Chu or High or Entropy do anything in the DLDB for months and months (since June 20 at least)

Or shrunk. We get so much crap for UMS maps these days.

I'm sorry about this. I should of done something sooner. I'm going to look into getting new people for the DLDB team. Maybe the leaders can do it every one in a while.

I just checked the logs, and you are correct. They aren't doing anything so I'm going to cut them off right now.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by RexyRex on 2005-09-08 at 00:40:50
Ouch.
I'd be willing (very) to do it, but I'm dependant on getting my computer back.

Oh, wait, asking lowers your chances...blushing.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2005-09-08 at 00:48:02
Actually, you will be submitting applications, so that guideline will be voided for when I make the topic.

So the four oppertunities that people can have is ums/modding/melee leader, and DLDB keeper. They will all happen at the same time, and people can apply for more than one of them, but they will only get approved into one. (I'll make a choice based upon where I think their skills are best suited).

After weeks of inactivity, I relocated everyone but DT_Battlekruser. Don't worry, help will be on the way soon. Tommorow I'll make the proper application topics. And a little more after that I'll put the old DLDB keepers in the staff thanks page.

Question!

In order to become a "Editing Section Leader" do you have to have a low warn level?

I know mine is really high... Most warns were when I first joined the site and I was still the "1337 n00b". I think I have matured since then. happy.gif

Anyways, what I am asking is, if you have a high warn level, does it lower your chances?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2005-09-08 at 00:56:29
Your last warn level was on Aug 20 2005, which is pretty recent.

If your knowledge and participation are really good, then theres a good chance you'll get in anyway. You'll have to agree to watch the rules and represent them though (if you don't I'll just find someone else to do it).

Giving is better than receving (99% percent of the time), so be sure to vote for others if you're running to be a section leader.
Just saying. smile.gif

Night.

Well, the last warn was very well deserved. But, most of the other's I don't remember why I was warned. I was never notified why... (As far as I know)

Anyway, this is not what the thread is about...

That's kind of reassuring. Well, I will just have to wait for the audition threads or something. Becuase, I am sure I can help 'ya out!

They're fairly spread apart, so I wouldn't worry.

Phew...

It's actually kind of funny.

If you look at all my threads/posts before March '05, they were pretty embarrassing. Then, I just started talking like a normal human being. Meh... I guess we all start somewhere....

Now, time to just wait for the audtition threads. happy.gif

I think that this is a good idea.
I also think that we should exspand the scope and nominate new mods for the "other" section.

Well, theres been an approval rate of 100% with 16 votes. It's safe to say that its going to happen, and the selection process is already underway.

Thanks guys, for your input.
