Staredit Network -> Portal News -> 700 Megs over my limit

Hey everyone, you'll never guess what! I'm offically 700 megabytes over my webhosts space limit after generating a full backup scared.gif

I'm trying to download the backup ASAP, however its taking a while. If you see the site shutdown, this is why.

On another note, I'm going to be slowly removing some coding from my files. This will speed up the loading drasticly, but we may lose a few things or suffer downtime.

No, this isn't another one of my uber layout site remaking thingies tongue.gif

What is the limit?

1 gig.

You may hear of hosts that provide "Ulimited space and bandwidth", but its never true, trust me.

Either they have some sort of resource thing under their terms of use that dont allow you to use that much anyway (plus not have a website like this), or they're a really censored.gif ty host anyway.

Anyways, I'm back to normal with good ol' 300 megs (this is including the matrix music on the server right now wink.gif)

So you had almost double your limit? o.O

Yeah, thats why you host your own website.. but of course I don't, my computer would overheat and melt on the floor.

I dont want to host my own website because I actually want to be able to turn off my computer. By getting shared hosting, the server managers are to blame for it shutting down wink.gif

why do you need to generate a backup, why not just grab a SQL and ftp dump?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2004-05-05 at 11:32:30
I generate backups regularly (about every 1 or 2 months.) mainly because it updates everything I got, plus im changing some of the programming -_-

I always have a spare backup and a SQL dump dont worry.

yes but why keep them on the server?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Yoshi da Sniper on 2004-05-06 at 11:01:10
i'm not, its on my hard drive.

Then why does it contribute to space limit?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by dashrike on 2004-05-06 at 17:56:52
Because he has a backup on the server as well.

Besides, he said that the real problem was the emails anyways.

I did a full backup, it goes on the server because it compiles all of my account information, then emails me telling me its done.
