Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Problem with Glowing Units
Report, edit, etc...Posted by ... on 2005-09-14 at 17:16:48
I use Starforge and when I try to make my units glow. Some of them works such as Zergling. I use 255/1 or 250/1 + Invincibility for glowing. But to the disabled units, it doesn't. So can disabled units such as Marine, Ghost, Tank, and/or Firebat be glowed? Usually they have random damage on them like having orange damage marks on their outline and things such as that.

lol way too high of numbers. try 9/7 it works like 95%

But 255/1 makes a blackish and whitish glowing that many will like. smile.gif

It doesnt work on all units, meaning those terran units can't have the glow that the zerg have. And the glow is depending of the tileset. It changes to each different tile set.

Units That Glow
All Zergs(buildings, beacon, ground units and air units, ALL)
critters
resources
beacons
archon
and i think traps and doors also glow (at least the ones that do not say "blank")
oh and the khrydian formation(whatever it's spelled)

Units The Don't Glow
this include all the ones i did not mention
plus flags psi emitter and other power ups not including chrysalis or mineral chunk 1,2 or the other gas thingies
terran units all of them
protoss units except archon

i guess that's all i can't remember any others feel free to add it to the list

ADDITION:
oh and also try not to exceed the number "7" or "9" because some of the higher number will work but from 9/8 or less it's sure it works or 7/6 i don't really remember if it's nine of seven but i am 80% sure it is 7

Interesting.
Never knew there were limits.. never experimented with it, either, actually..
What about Dark Archon?

Note the tutorial is extremely wrong in one aspect. Typing in 6 in the HP2 box and 3 in the HP box results in an HP of 4/3, NOT 9/3 or 6/3.

well obviously if it doesn't work then why try again gaush, i really like 3/1 tongue.gif

like dt said, a higher number in the second hp box will make the unit hp one higher than the maximum health, so there is no need for 255/1.

zerg units and archons glow and terran units and all other protoss units just have orange and brown or blue.

the health effects don't always show up on terran and protoss units. heimdal explained it, but i can't remember exactly what he said. but it went something like this:
the terran units and protoss units sometimes just appear as if they have taken damage because their wireframes aren't always the same at each health percentages. 30/35 health on a marine could show some yellow in one spot on the wireframe or yellow in another spot. maybe even red. their wireframes are dynamic. i don't know if he said that but that simplifies it. zerg units and archons just have set states for their wireframes, so they will always have the health effects.

as far as the glowing, i can't explain that. i think it has something to do with their wireframes, though.

Dark Archons work i have it in my map. And any unit that does not glow they SOMETIMES turn dark blue. Don't ask why they are random i don't really know. But it works on all units, just randomly...its funny i think cuz half are blue and half are just red/yellow. lol

well if you read what i said, it wouldn't seem so random.

it all depends on what you put it. i don't know how, but i do know what makes what.
2/1 gives you orange and brown, and i think a mostly grey wireframe on zerg stuff
4/3 gives you blue, and a mostly black wireframe on zerg stuff
7/6 gives you dark blue and black

2/1 and 4/3 are the only differing ones for zerg stuff and archons. that's just what i remember off hand, though. i don't know where my starcraft cd is right now.

on certain tilesets (installation is the only one i know of, but i'm sure there's others) 3/2 will give zerg units and archons orange and grey and with zerglings blue and orange.

that's wrong because the colors blue, black , orange will depend on the tile set
+space, installation, will go blue and no glowing not even on zerg units it will just be static
+ashlands= orange
+desert= some weird black in shades of red..very difficult to see
+badlands, jungle= black to gray
+twilight= nothing? how weird.....
+artic= blue in shades of gray more like light blue that slowsly glows

ok and dtbc got me thinking and once it happened to me but i did some testing
this test was made in Desert i don't know if it affects it but here it is:

3/1=2/1 2/1=2/1 4/1=2/1 3/1=2/1 5/1=2/1 6/1=2/1 7/1=2/1
3/2=3/2 4/2=3/2 5/2=3/2 6/2=3/2 7/2=3/2
4/3=4/3 5/3=4/3 6/3=4/3 7/3=4/3
5/4=5/4 6/4=5/4 7/4=5/4
6/5=6/5 7/5=6/5
7/6=7/6

things to remember, health depends on tileset
glowing units are zergs, resources, critters and some powerups and beacons and
archons
not glowing units are terrans and protoss and the ones missing
and remember the chart i made up there

That backs up DT's quote, which was less ambiguously rephrased later by saibaman8:

Well as far as glowing units go, it depends on your terrain. There isn't any true way to make Terran or Protoss units to be blue 100% of the time. Just so you know, another neat trick is having life 160/1. If you do this for Gui Montag (The Firebat Hero) he will usually have bits of orange, yellow, brown, and frequently, purple. If you do this for probe or medic, usually you have blue, yellow, and frequently, teal. I'm still trying to figure out if there is a way to have units be completely teal or purple, but I thought I would just let you know. happy.gif

You're probably right for the most part, but for some reason setting life to 160/1 doesn't just get set to 2/1 life. Try and see, unless you already have. I used starforge to do this (duh?). However, I did make the units invincible, I'm not sure if this effected the color, also I did max armor and shields. Perhaps look at this old map of mine. (Look at the firebat)
