Ive been thinking, since terraining is possible and is supported by starcraft, is it possible to cut the usual terraining pieces in halfs, fourths, etc?
Wont each piece by itself be supported by starcraft, and together it will create much more accurate terrain.
It would take a long time, but it would open the possibility of less blockiness!

Any problems with my logic?

well, with a mod ....

A mod to starcraft or a mod to the editing tool?
I personally see no problem with the possibility since people have created regular terraining.

No, this is not possable, and the time it would take to make terrain, wouldn't be worth it for a slightly less amount of blockiness... You see, if I can't blend terrain with every tile from every doodad, from ever extra rock pallet, ruin pallet, cliff sections, and advanced conjunctions, there is no "right" color that will blend something. Looking into this would be a waste.

the terrain in the tilesets is stored in 8x8 blocks, which you could rearrage for better blending in tileedit ;P

:/
Why would it be a waste?
Arnt there current limitations to what u can do with terraining?
This can remove all limitations if it worked, even though it would take a long time.
It could also be the key to making your own tilesets that could be supported by starcraft.
You just need the proper program that could transform all that into a tileset.

Oh and once again, this is all theoretical

Think of the possibilities.. you could make a real drawing of nearly anything of any size, and possibly control whether units can pass on it or not, even though u cant make them pass behind except with advanced triggering.

Starcraft Supports loads of colors, all the players, the units with players, doodads, etc.
Therefore, if this is possible, it could be not 2 far away from the discovery of God Triggers if someone made a program capable of doing this, from creating your own tilesets to modifying existing ones using the square/isometrical terrain. And microterrain

It's not possible. It is loads of memory.

256x256 maps are 65535 squares total.

If you have them into fourths, when one square = four squares, that would be

65535 x 4 squares, 262144.

That would overload starcraft, so get the idea out of your head.

Shame.
But to change the idea of this, In the advanced editors you can put units anywhere, and anywhere a unit goes in game changes the looks of that particular tile and the one above, or which ever ones the unit touches.
Is it possible to exploit that in tileset making?

Or is it impossible because the squares and the units are on different 'layers' of what starcraft shows?
