I would hope that no one would be discouraged from looking at this topic because it's just another madness. I am making this map in the hopes of creating a madness that is more complex than your typical Pokemon Madness. I got the idea from a really old map that I only played once called Stat Madness. After playing it and being unsuccessful in my search for another person playing it I wanted to make my own version and revive the idea of a perfect balance of RPG and Madness aspects. I've got it about 75% finished but am still open for ideas. If I finish it, this will be my first ever finished map playable on Battle.net. I'd love input, and if anyone is free for working on triggers I'd appreciate it more than you know, finishing up the triggers has always been what has slowed me down from finishing my maps. An unprotected version of my map is attactched. Please look around and criticize, compliment, and/or give your ideas. Thanks guys !Ah you remade the topic... don't see why you just didn't mod the last one.
Anyways, same opinion as last time. Not too thrilled about it being a madness, but perhaps it will be good, like that MTG magus game is. Good luck with it.
You're gonna wanna get all the triggers done first. Worrying about unit stats now can bring about your disinterest in the project, and therefore it's death. Make the units balanced later.
(Yes, I've made a Madness before. Was quite sexy.)
By popular demmand , i switched to orange, when i was blue before...I think u made me switch cause u just hate me ( XD ) Although I've been here over 1½ years I only have 36 posts. I've never met you before but have always written in blue.
To be fair, I gotta say this to you too. Please switch to another colour blue is very painful on the eyes.
No it isnt, maybe for u it is, but i love blue
Hm, screenshots would be nice. What tile-set is this on, size of the map etc. etc. Also, I don't really understand your "RPG MADNESS" concept, so it'd be nice if you could elaborate on that.
A few notes...
1. Balance! I actually suggest that you make the unit stats first, just so that you know exactly what you're working with when you write the triggers. For instance, if you plan on varying the health of units, you'll want to know what percentage difference would yield an actual change in the number of hits required to kill a unit. No matter how well a map system is triggered, if poor balance makes it less useful than other systems, it won't be used in play (except by n00bs). Be sure to take damage types and attack speeds into consideration; but more important, make sure everything has the feel that it's meant to have. Units can be aggressive, defensive, sneaky, berzerk, tactical, powerful but flawed...give a unit a distinct character that the player can instinctively grasp from the way the unit performs in battle, and a distinct purpose to encourage its use.
2. Make sure there's some way for a player to come back even when significantly behind. A lot of madnesses fail this; basically, the early game ends up determining the winner, with the lategame only mattering because of significant errors. The further behind a player is, the harder it should be for them to come back, to be sure; but there should always be some clever way to turn the tides of battle.
3. Pacing! The main appeal of madness maps is that there's a constant flow of extreme killing. Keep that feeling, but add more control to the killing (and therefore more strategy) without lessening it, and you could have a winner.
Ive always wanted to see a madnes with heroes. Like Footman wars in wc3(a widely successful map). The spells and use of a hero has the possibliltity to sway the battler incredible. And the simplexity of a madness map will make it easy to trigger.
Isn't golems a madness with heroes? -_-
Hey guys thanks for tips and all... (When I double posted it was because I accidentaly hit add post instead of review post ) I haven't gotten alot done because of school but I hope to get some triggers done this weekend but homecoming is this weekend for my hs so I dunno... A few notes: I havent really worked on my balance yet. I was messing around with text trying to get cool effects when I wanted a break from triggers so if you look in my map and see odd text that's why. The terrain is twilight, 192 x 192 i think, map is square with players in a pentagon shaped distance apart. The RPG aspects I was trying to add were health, upgrades and spells/specials. Yes there is a hero aspect of it, its one of the more expensive specials, units look the same only with increased health, attack, speed, etc. I would hope that you guys take a look around in my map to see what I've done so you can have a more focused idea of what I'm trying to accomplish(I meant to attatch it to the first post but apparantley I forgot ), but then again any tips will help. Thanks again... P.S. Can someone tell me how to change your title below your avatar?
