Staredit Network -> Terrain -> Island Temple
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Oo.Turin.oO on 2005-10-03 at 11:04:40
This is MY first terrain (it seems like alot of people are putting up 'firsts'). After giving this a try, i decided to make an rpg where this will go and be one of the objective places yadda yadda yadda. To make it short, its a man made dock where the temple got flooded.

Nothing special, bridge terrain's been done a lot.
I like the one dimension thick walls though.

Next time post screenshots in-game. It's the game that matters not the map editor.

I have done the 1/2, 1, 1 and 1/2, 2 block think bridge walls all before... if you look closely, it is impossable to remove the blockiness. Sorry, but this is a sprite intensive required piece that is ugly!

1/10, you put sprites in spots they didn't need... blending could of been better!

It's fairly simplistic, but quaint. If you just widened the walls a tile or so, it would be a very easy blend. It's not ugly, but it's nothing amazing. 6/10 Turn off the grid before you screenshot, by the way.

It goes all black and i don't know how to change it. Unless you wanna tell me how to fix that then i have to take screen shot in scm draft or starforge

You are a newb, WoodenFire, lol.

Although it may be an overdone piece, I think it looks cool. For that, you recieve a 7/10.

Ummm, there IS blockiness, on the top left corner, you also have some useless sprites.

If you're going to put in sprites, put them in where u need them.

Keep trying.

I would put in some pylon aura sprites or traps to create a "beach" effect, just so it looks more likes been flooded rather than a temple build in a lake.

NO NOT IN THE MAP!!! In the SCREEN SHOT its all black...like in paint. I can see the game fine im not a noob map maker just a noob terrainer. When i hit print screen and past it in paint its all black. and im sorry i forgot to take the grid out. As for the top left corner...i tried different pieces for like 15 minutes and that was the least blocky i could get it.

It's because you don't paste it.

Get infranview then open a file named SCNX001 or some such in your starcraft directory.

lol what the heck? heh.. ive seen wooden's work... its godly O.o smile.gif but i do detect some sarcasm in this quote...

[/threadhyjak]

i like it sort of... the bridge walls kinda make it look like the water flooded thru gateways... but the gateways wouldnt be black if its that thin wink.gif unrealistic... forest trees growing on side of a build, out of water, ontop of the building... theres no soil... trees cant grow like that... weeds maybe, but thats gonna need to change... maybe instead of trees, put ruin terrain + some ruin terrain doodads (the terrain not the sprite)... dont want to be a sprite masser smile.gif .... grid could be hiding blending issues or blockyness... cheapness... original piece of work? semi- havnt seen temple being flooding inside of a chamber like that... type of terrain used for it.... not original, been done all to many times tongue.gif

eh thats my opinion tho lol
Report, edit, etc...Posted by NerdyTerdy on 2005-10-10 at 23:09:31
Well temple is used a lot, flooded is a new idea, but it like someone before said looks more like a built in sorta lake, doesn't look natural, same for trees. Good job on first attempt though, keep at it.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Oo.Turin.oO on 2005-10-11 at 21:51:26
It wasn't exactly supposed to look "natural". Men made it, and men planted the trees in little holes in the concrete. As for the temple...what exactly do you suppose i do to make it look flooded then. And i did the best i could on blockiness i couldn't find anything to make it any more smooth.
