Staredit Network -> StarCraft Editing Related -> Im Sure Everyone Who Uses SCXE Got This MSG
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Leingod on 2005-10-04 at 23:00:43
Anyone who uses SCEX (star craft extra editor) has probably got this msg..

"Could Not Open file C:\Program Files\Starcraft\Maps\-Folder Name-\-Map Name-For Writing"

Although when you try to save and get this msg, it still saves the map, but this always pops up. How do you get rid of this msg?

-again, I KNOW THAT WHEN YOU SAVE AND THIS MSG POPS UP IT STILL SAVES THE MAP, IM ASKING HOW TO GET RID OF THIS MSG

Go back to starforge, save, go back to scxe again. When you go back to starforge you get some weird error and it deletes all the sounds. Just re-add them when you get back to scxe.

actually the error is caused by opening the map in SF in the first place, after having imported sounds with SCXE.
I'm not sure if resaving in scmdraft will fix it, worst case open in winmpq and nuke the listfile.

here is how to fix it, learned it from somewhere here. Download WinMPQ from the DLDB, then open WinMPQ, open your map and delete the LIST file. Then goto your map again in SCXE and all fixed. However, you need to readd the sounds even if they are there.

yea that has happend to me a lot. Starforge is just wierd in that way. You can't open a map with music or if you didn't start it there.. It just happends. you have to be careful with sf.

Dude, it's SCXE, not SCEX.

Yeah, I agree with SI, a very sensible thing to do when SF corrupts your map with sounds.

I find very stupid because when this happens to me(I swear I will never open map in SF ever again) it deletes all sounds and 2-3x map's size. As I said stupid wallbash.gif .

funny guy thank you, this exists in otehr programs too, when a file is opened in a second location, another mapo editor, SC, being uploaded, or even wasnt saved last time program closed, sometimes it makes the file read-only temporarily, but saving saves the map anyway, so y does it matter really, its a simple bug, not like it damages your map or computer in any way, just givs an annoying pop-up, and u can;t stop it unless u delete list file every time before you open in SCXE

It has nothing to do with read only, it has to do with staredit being _ALOT_ stricter in its interpretation of the MOPAQ specs than most public mopaq libs and with the specific map subfiles.

it happens to me and i think's it cause when i use SCXE and SCM Draft at the same time, i save on one then go to the other and edit stuff and save on that one. then try to open it in scxe and it tells me that.

When I read only this suspected that he was trying to open a previously protected map. Silly me. happy.gif
But after reading the rest of it I say that most likely is due to you having the same map file opened by more than one editor at the same time (as someone said above, I think).
