LOL! I just stumbled accross this. You can transfer unit names, triggers, breifings and all sorts of things with this technique?
What special 3rd party program do you need? NONE!
Heres what you do. You need two maps. The first one has the data you want to send over, and the second map is the one receiving the data.
Okay, now you open the first map, and open whatever you want to send. As an example, lets send unit names. open the unit settings box, change whatever you want. Now, WITHOUT closing the unit settings box or staredit, go to my computer all the way to your mapping folder.
Double Click and open map number two. Staredit may ask you if you want to save, your previous file, thats up to you. Now the next map opens. You can now press okay on the unit settings box.
Woohoo! The settings have been transfered between maps! No 3rd party program necessary!
Did some testing...
a. Doesn't work with Briefings.
b. Doesn't work with Triggers.
c. Doesn't work with Upgrade Settings.
d. Unit Settings work.

e. Forces work.

f. Player Properties work. (not all the properties, just race and player type)
No... just doing this stuff "live".

Editing first post for new info.
I only found it out with unit settings. Its slightly useful I guess

WOOT
Now when I wanna startover a map, but don't want to lose all my unit settings, I can do that!
THANK YOU YOSHI!
*bows down in worship*
Heh. Great for making sequels. Why do all these copying tools come out AFTER I start remaking things?

This isn't a copyng tool though

Its a cheap way of transfering certain things.
How in the hell do you come across something like this? LoL
Wow thats neat (isn't that exactly what clokr_'s recent program does). Do you know the effect it has on text strings?
It actually transfers them over, whatever your current box is using.
I found this out when I was in the middle of making matrix (changing some unit names) and Coko sent me a map. I opened it with staredit running in the background, next thing I knew the unit settings box didn't go away.
