I've always wondered what the hell toggle on a switch does. And also do SCMD/SF support it.

looking at that tutorial legacy gave us it seems like the toggle button is completly useless...
because instead of toggle you could just do the trigger turn off the trigger or trun on the trigger....
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Toothfariy on 2005-10-12 at 19:50:57
you can use it to do things like randomize things even further

Really? I really want to know what you're talking about, since I, as well think toggling is just about useless. Explain please.

ok lets say you randomize a switch, the use a toggle trigger that is perserved. it will make the randomized trig more random and will keep it random.

you can use it if you are lazy too, so you dont have to make 2 triggers instead of 1

you can't make anything "more random" than it is.

that is not the best way to randomize switches, though, since those take a lot of triggers , the first time it is used always enables switch 4 and the outcomes are done in an order if you use it more than once.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Oo.Turin.oO on 2005-10-12 at 20:35:29
No matter what...when randomizing switches it will be 50-50 chance of either side. (for only one switch). Even if you toggle it, it is still a 50-50 chance to get either one...

That will not randomize anything really. You will get set outcomes.

I've never toggled a switch. Its basicly useless.

There you have it, wise words from one of the greatest map makers that toggle switch isn't that useful. ;D I never use switches that much anymore, let alone toggle. :/

Well my thought is the only reason you would ever need to use it is if you don't know the current state that the switch is in. But that sounds striking to me like sloppy triggering. Its also open for massive multiplayer missuse where if the trigger was owned by two players it would be toggled twice thus negating its purpose.

most times that you may not know what the switch is at you need two triggers anyway because your doing opposet actions. In witch case its you need to know what the switch is and you can simply use enable or disable.

well i bet bilzzard used it at one point in time
Report, edit, etc...Posted by in_a_biskit on 2005-10-14 at 21:24:51
I think blizzard suggests that you use 'toggle' in setups involving doors..

And if you're really lazy, it might save you a few seconds when copying/modifying triggers..

But to agree with everyone else, there isn't much use for 'toggle'.
