There are lots of great ideas for RPGs that you see in the maps in production forum. However, as shown by the fact that Love and Hate had to start it's engine completely from scratch, many map makers struggle with making RPG engines.
So I was thinking, because all RPGs have similar things they need to do, such as a shop system, some kind of health system, and item system, a spawning system.
I tried to do something similar to this by making the engine for The Seasons RPG winter truly versatile, but I quit it and realize that although some people break the mold, and are able to develop complex RPG engines alone (qPirateKing comes to mind), the task is essentially a multi person job.
So therefore, I would like to assemble a team (with the most experienced member who joins being the leader) of a group of people that would work on an RPG engine, allowing people to "snap together" and RPG, with a few uses of replacing text en masse using SCMDraft, and the placement of buildings and movement of locations.
Then this RPG engine should also be adaptable, and people with a sound knowledge of triggers should be able to mold it into working for their map.
I have some ideas about the exact nature of this engine, but I think that the engine will work out best if multiple people collaborate on it's premise.
I will introduce my specific ideas if enough interest is displayed.
If all goes as planned, we will start to see much less RPG projects canceled.
pretty much how programmers do it. Make an engine, make it adaptable to their other games, etc. The Unreal Engine 3 comes to mind. They sell it and make $$$
I can join.
I have some experience with a few of the aspects of the game engine, so I think I can help.
I can help with
1) Different Spell Systems (I have some really good ones I prepared)
2) Storyline Control (Making rpg's interactive)
And a few other things.
I never did a shop system though.
Indeed.
Moogle might be joining us? Fantastic.
Oh and i wrote so few things i can help with because i didnt find anything else there is to do..
1st thing we put in there: Hyper Triggers.
If we really get serious, we could get a small program to modify the .trg file to what the user wants it to be
