How do u make static in the portait?

I'm not sure if this would work, but if a transmission isn't running at the time, try inserting a really short one (1 millisecond) - that might give you a bit of static... or if there is supposed to be a transmission running, try cutting it up into segments before and after you want the static, and when it changes from one transmission to the other there might be some static.
But I haven't been very observant about when static occurs in the portrait, so I don't know whether these will work.
