Do you guys think Bush made a good decision in nominating her? I think it is good and bad but mostly bad because we just know absolutely nothing about her.
I doubt a lot of women really wanted to go through with the whole thing, seeing as how they're still usually the ones who tend to their children and stuff. The Supreme Court senatorial review can be a rigorous thing for both the senators and the nominee, though the senators on the committee are generally used to sitting around for days at a time and discussing stuff. Had Bush not gone with a woman, there would likely have been enormous backlash from minority rights and feminists groups, among others.
I believe it's impossible to call it a "good" or "bad" decision, really, as subjectivity doesn't really apply here. Myers could be an ultra-conservative, or she could be a raging liberal. No one really knows. Bush may not even be really behind this, as he seems to have little grasp over how to run a country. It could be Carl Rove doing everything behind the scenes, or it could simply be Bush pushing his anti-abortion/gay marriage/etc. agenda by nominating someone who is a complete unknown and turns out to be a big conservative player.
If you were to ask something along the lines of "Is the nomination of an unknown factor (i.e. Harriet Myers) good for the U.S?", that would be rather different.
It's not a bad move because of what party she is. It's a bad move because of her lack of experiance. This is the Supreme Court NOT Judge Judy. 1st hand experiance is a lot better than 2nd hand experiance. Especially for something like this.
I think she will do a 'good' job but, I also think that their are better people that could be chosen.
Ban abortion, and create a law that states that people who support the ban, cannot take office?
That is a "good" job?
She's a lawyer, not a judge. Bush is an idiot, and I both hope and think that she won't go through.
Not only is she utterly incompetent, she will never be impartial when the conservative nutcases attempt to overturn Roe v Wade. She already strongly announced her opposition to the decision.
Don't need to worry about Miers anymore. She has withdrawn her nomination and Bush said he "reluctantly accepted" her withdrawal. Go knock up some chicks!
Giggity Giggity Giggity! All right!
