I have to do a project on scientology for world religions, i've found out that the entire religion is pretty messed up. That really isn't the worst part about it though, the people who are in this religion (which includes many celebrities) say that their religion is a great religion with no more downfalls then any major religion. Critics say that it is a cult and people totally opposed to it say it's a cult that is only out to make money (in germany it is basically banned).

Tell me what you think.

I read that it was coined to be a synonym for "pseudoscience", but I still dislike the fact that it has the root word science in it, when it really isn't science at all.

Really you cant base off what people say and what text says, you really have go in and see what its like and try out. Since i am part of Scientology, i was born into and i have no issues with it, isnt a cult or nothing just another religion trying help out human race. But just my opinions.

"The word Scientology literally means "the study of truth.' It comes from the Latin word 'scio' meaning 'knowing in the fullest sense of the word" and the Greek word 'logos" meaning 'study of.''" - Scientology.org

Scientology is like a cash grab, but the people getting the cash believe in it themselves.

Or to be more precise: A bunch of insane and/or suggestible people give away thousands of dollars to be convinced they're free of tiny alien things that pollute their thought processes, and the people who facilitate this stuff believe it works too.

[center]I was watching the Today show a few days ago and they did a segment called 'Mysterious relegions: Scientology'... or something along those lines. It was very strange in my opinion, but then again all organized relegions seem strange to me. It looks, to me, more like a cult than anything else.
I'm not too well informed on it, so don't judge anything I say as such.
"What is true is what is true for you. No beliefs should be enforced as "true" on anyone. Rather, the tenets of Scientology are expected to be tested and seen to be true, or not, by its practitioners." That I like, but the whole Xenu thing kills it as a relegion for me.

If I ever have an argument about religion with scientology, and after 2 hours the scientology side still thinks they're right, then I'm just gonna become a hermit.

BTW - Leifism is the only true religion. That's all you need to know.

Yea, but I was referring to coined the word:

QUOTE
The word scientology has a history of its own. Although today associated almost exclusively with Hubbard's work, it was coined by philologist Allen Upward in 1907 as a synonym for "pseudoscience".

And I don't get how it is the study of truth. I haven't read about it too much, but how does believing in past lives have any truth to it?

And it's a religion.

Hold on. I thought Scientology was created by a friend of Isac Asimov to prove that the Bible could have been fiction, with his evidence being his followers.

Scientology is a bad science fiction story turned into a religion. I kid you not.
