Okay, I was in Null do my usual crap in the forum games and whatever. And then I find topics like These closed for no reason. Why? What do you mean it serves no purpose? Its a forum game, it should be open like the other 200 forum games in Null are. I think the moderators need a certain "set" of rules to go by, because it seems like they like to close the topics they dont like and keep open the ones they do.

Close spam, whatever, but Null is meant for forum games and half-assed topics. I saw this happen to a few other topics, but I dont have time to fish them out. I just ask that you maybe make some moderation rules.

I can't really disagree, it's definently no more pointless than the word association.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2005-11-06 at 01:07:27
I don't see anything saying Null is for games (with the exception being that key word "constructive") or half assed topics. The descriptions were changed, you should reread them.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2005-11-06 at 01:13:02
Well, we need to decide: do we allow half-assed topics like "What are you listening to now?" and "The Word Association"?

You have been for as long as Ive been on this site, and they dont seem to annoy anyone.

That annoys me too, that was a stupid closing. It was entertaining the people playing and that was all that mattered. It was no different than other Null games...

I believe that a thread just about the same as that wasn't closed when it was made a few months back. Although, that was before the crack down on spam, also it came before the massive ammounts of spamtastic n00bs invading the site.

It's really up to the moderators.

You'd have to ask the person who closed it...?

As for myself, I couldn't go either way on it... It's in null, sure, but it's also a rather weak "game". Zero thought process.

It was ok. Better than the counting thread.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Ultimo on 2005-11-06 at 18:47:25
Okay, we should close all forum games except for "What the heck are you listening to right now?" Since, everyone loves that game. biggrin.gif

Some games offer at least some constructiveness to the posters. Others are just way too random and there really was no point to them.

The thread closed was similar to the "Corrupt the wish above you". In the later mentioned you could at least write a funny statement or something, in the closed thread all you did was answer a question with one word and give a 3 word question.

I seriously detest the what are you listening to thread. That has to be the greatest waste of space I have seen on SEN. You don't even read other people's posts. You just click right in, type in a random song (whether you're listening to it or not) and boom, you're done. 80 pages of crap :\.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by IsolatedPurity on 2005-11-06 at 19:00:07
haha... well some small talk occasionally occured when i read it...

and I read what other people were listening to and occasionally tried out the songs the posted... if a couple of other people do that, the thread is worthwhile smile.gif

Oh of course it could only be none other than warhammer complaining about stuff in the Null forum smile.gif

Hmm... bag.gif
I saw it as a nothingness topic, and mainly closed it due to a report I got about it.
Everyone has there own perceptions on what should be kept open and what should be closed.

I guess the question is, should we let any sort of forum game be allowed at sen. We'd have to draw the line somewhere.

Sorry war, and nerdy, if it's really aggravating I suppose I could open it again.

There's the occasional music related small talk. I do read every reply and often listen to songs other people post. Plus it's been around for soo long, why kill it?

Forum games were alright, but that topic was meant to make 4 word replies in. And it is 100% spam.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Zombie on 2005-11-07 at 14:43:08
i agree/disagree

The moderator(s) keep closing topics that dont need to be closed... like funny topics? he closes cuz they are stupid? maybe to him but not others... i dont see how its fare when he closes things HE doesnt like.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2005-11-07 at 14:56:03
If you want to post 3 word replies and spam like crazy, go to some other kiddie forum.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2005-11-07 at 15:03:25
Well, I'm personally against closing topics like that, but if I think about it from the moderators side, it seems like a different problem.
SEN is a Starcraft Map/Mod Making website, not a recreational one (though then we have to ask why there is a NULL at all), yet Yoshi made it somehow recreational as well to make it a bit more interesting.
These topics take up some space, but these topics are still slightly (at least) recreational, and since that is what NULL is for, aside from reporting of sc glitches ( biggrin.gif ) and things like that.

As I said, I'm against closing topics like that, but I understand why they're being closed..

As a side note, why are they closed, not deleted?

On another side note, I'm a regular now so I'll try harder.

-It wasnt much like Currupt the wish above you, it was just like the OR GAME, which survived for some time back in the day
-Look and the word association. Thats got 3000 replies to it, and its just 1 word.

Im just saying, let the people have some fun with their forum games, unless its complete spam.

And by the way, repeating what nuclearrabbit and IP said about the music thread, I read all of the posts, and we ocassionally have "small talk" about music.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Syphon on 2005-11-08 at 21:02:19
And just say that songs rock and stuff. Really what is the point of that thread? Why does anyone care what the heck you're listening to?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by IsolatedPurity on 2005-11-09 at 08:19:49
To see what other people are listening to and give you a chance to broaden your circle of musics. Finding good songs by groups you never heard before gives you a warm fuzzy feeling.

As far as word association, while it was 1 word per post, it did play a little with the mind... and if people were being 100% honest of the first word they thought of, it could be interesting. OR games however, have no real thought to them. Maybe?

The seperation of null and light discussion was supposed to allow forum games in null while most other topics that were supposed to be in null could go in light discussion.

However, I think that perhaps forum games that don't provoke at least some thought into them should be closed.

I remember about half a year back there was a "Post the next number" topic. Things like that trigger me to lose faith in humanity.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2005-11-09 at 15:08:29
Post the next number?
*Silver-Dragon rolls on the floor laughing extremely hard*

Now THAT should be closed on sight..
And as I remember a few people did post, probably trying to get extra posts in Null.

I lost hope in humanity.. well.. 2 years ago, when I learned of all the 'not enough resources' scenario

As said, just delete completely pointless and stupid forum games, but keep the ones that seem to be popular.
