We orginially had this idea to have topics have the ability to be marked mature by mods or the topic creator. By default, by entering a mature topic, you are given a confirmation screen before entering the topic. In 'my settings', you have the ability to not even show mature topics or skip the confirmation screen. This way, more mature topics can exist without being offensive to younger people...
On a plus note, I could probably block search bots from scanning topics like this so they wouldn't block our site as porn or something.
However, is it really even necessary? Thoughts...?
-----------------
Another thing is polls...
So far, I have made no attempt to include them in senv5... I need to do so soon otherwise I know I'll pay for it later by having to hack it in somewhere. We orginally thought it would be nice to include multiple polls per topic, but, I see that as somewhat unnecessary? Having multiple polls would only seem to make a topic length very cluttered.
As far as making polls, the thought process I'm having is this:
20 max options...?
Min / max number of options to choose...
Option for to make multiple option polls weighted or not.
Force vote before viewing poll results and/or reading replies or replying.
A regular senv4 poll is:
1 min, 1 max option, no weights.
Other things you could do is...
1 min, 3 max options, no weights.
-- choose UP TO 3 favorite items in the list
3 min, 3 max, weights...
-- choose favorite 3. First choice nets that option (max options) points, 2nd gets (max options - 1), 3rd gets (max options - 2) and so forth. In this scenerio, our first choice gets 3 points.
----------------
How is topic view coming along? ATM, I'm getting all the buttons (edit, reply, quote, etc) to only display if they are valid. Any suggestions of the general setup.
On senv4, at the bottom of a topic, there is:
A search box for searching... the topic?
Go to next thread, forum, previous thread.
Users reading that topic...
And a forum jump box.
I was thinkng of including a "go back to forum" link somewhere, and probably users in topic, but what about the other crap. Seems unncessary. Opinions?
There is no reason to have a "porn" forum at SEN, and if you think "mature" threads would be anything else, think again. I have never supported such unprofessionality, and I don't now.
Multiple polls might be worth it but you should have to limit it to small number of choices. I.E. have a poll question and then a demographic.
Like the different kind of polls.
Yeah, the other crap is unncessesary.

The jump to top button, I use a lot to go back to the Index or the Forum (Jump to Top -> The Tree Links).
Keep the search box for the topic.
Next, previous thread links are pointless. At least I'd never use them.
Maybe a forum jump box. I never use it but some people might.
I wasn't considering the jump to the top button because if you are done with a topic, you mostly likely would be at the end of it...? Is that not always the case?
Moving to feedback to get more opinions... faster...
There is no need to have a confermation screen to view posts that would just be annoying I do agree that there should be if not already I dont remember a little check box that says something like "Checking this box clarifies that you might take part in conversations for people over 13" or something
Well IsolatedPurity... What do you call mature stuff, what would be included...
I can only think of porn and excessive swearing... And isn't excessive swearing prohibited...?
Mature stuff is anywhere from talking about porn to talking about the bible in some cases
I really don't know what mature topics would be...
Porn/racial/excessive swearing wouldn't be allowed because of such an option...
For now, assume that a concept of mature topics wouldn't be included so I would rather hear any opinions condoning such a feature.
Mature topics, I think, is pretty useless. 3 max options and weights sounds good.
I remember when there were four types of polls around here (including ones like those)... those were cool.
What kind of poll needs twenty options?
I can't think of much practical use for having so many different poll styles. My suggestion is to have only the current system plus a preferential (ie weighted) voting system. In general, I think posts are more effective feedback than polls, so I don't think allowing multiple polls in one thread is necessary.
I can't see an overall advantage in introducing "mature topics". All the topics at SEN should be at a level appropriate to all members.
I think topic search can be useful in long threads.
I've never used "next thread" and "previous thread" links.
We don't really need to see who else is reading the topic.
The forum jump box is more of a hindrance than a help. I've never used it (except accidentally).
By the way, I suspect that noone uses the non-standard topic views - "outline" and "linear+" - so I'd ditch them.

that would be good. i can't visit sen anymore from school because they're stupid filter blocks it because of pornography. it probably sees the "pornographic maps in sc" topic and says "oh. high schoolers aren't mature enough to view anything remotely related to pronography. blockage!" ok, so maybe a lot of high schoolers aren't very mature... but still. it doesn't have to block the whole site. it's a link. it can just block that one page. i hate web filters.
Don't think we should have a "mature topic" thing and there should not be a forced to vote before you can see the results. I remember when it used to be like that I didin't like it that much but not it is not longer a forced vote before you can see the results. Sometimes you don't want to vote but you just want to see what the result is. They both have their ups and downs, force to vote or able to see results before vote.

Interesting it may be, but if you want porn, go get real porn. It utterly ruins SEN's professionality.QUOTE
It utterly ruins SEN's professionality.
So? SEN is already unprofessional
Plus didn't Yoshi and many other people contribute to that chicks thread?
Did I? No. Did I ever support Yoshi in it? No. I never supported that thread.
...What chicks thread?
SEN+Porn=Heaven
that would be so weird if sen had porn... yea it would totally just kill it...
