Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> [SOLVED] Unprotect starforge 2.2 file?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by scythetleppo on 2005-11-07 at 04:35:47
Hey I have been working on a map for a few days straight now and I have been using SF2.2. I have been routinely saving the "staredit-compatible" version in a seperate folder, and a starforge compatible in another.

So there I was trying to fix a briefing when SF crashes and now for some reason both versions of the file are now protected.......and can not open.

I haven't quite finished the map and I want to know if someone can revert it somehow or otherwise help me.

I have at least 4 different versions of the file, all of which just magically became protected......

My name is clearly written in the forces as well as on the map itself.

Anyways please let me know.

You can try an Unprotector in the DLDB but im not sure if that will work or not

I was always able to open starforge 1.2 files that were protected by the unprotector but I don't know if it will do it for the 2.2 version. I guess this will be a good test to see if it will work. Version 2.2 might have put in a better protecting system that the previuos version that programers found to be easy to unprotect.

There are no unprotectors hosted on SEN, it's against moral values.

If you lost your own unprotected map, join the club. There's little you could do for the moment besides sulk (or in my case, make a new version of the map), but someone who is sympathetic and can unprotect it for you may certainly contact you via PM.

just pm me the file, SF doesnt have strong protection

starforge makes back up files. Those are ALWAYS unprotected. Just open that...

There are no unprotectors in the DLDB. I won't rage on your for saying the word 'unprotector' but do't you dare give any links are mention any names.

Yeah, as said above open *.bak.scx and it should work. If the backup is correputed, you're screwed.

do ppl acctually make unprotector's...

must take them a long time...

Obviously people do take the time to break into someone's hard work...otherwise unprotectors would just be another SC legend.

I never knew SF had this problem. I always save my maps as BW compatible, and I never have problems.

There is an unprotector for GUEdit and the toolkit thing. It unprotects those and takes all of the music files out of them. Matter of fact, it takes the music files out of anything it trys to load wheather it is uprotected, protected, or can't be unprotected.

Are you gonna post the map?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Master-kenobi on 2005-11-08 at 01:34:38
OK dis is wat i needed to prove my post

dombass startedit and its pointless locking
i use to use staredit but i got tired of its locking addition

If you would just use like xtra editor like me it wouldnt matter

so next time you make a map think about whgat your doing if you do use starforge make sure alll the triggering if perfect so you can accese it.

sigh* y cn't ppl just exept the ediodicy of starforge

Oh sorry, I forgot what a heated discussion this always is....

I have no idea how to post it here, should I just upload it on one of my sites and link to it or .........oh nevermind I see the attachment button hahaha....

K here it is. Looking at it now it doesn't have my name in the forces, but it does have my name in the description, as well as the "critters" names... and it should be in the briefing too.

Here you go: [attachmentid=15099]
Just try to not do it again. tongue.gif
(Tell me if you want me to delete this post so the map doesnt get spread around or PM me when you download it so that I can)

hmmmm..........I can't open the file you posted =/

Are you sure that's the right one?

I get the "make sure it's valid" message from xtra, and the "SWNM" series of messages from starforge

One problem might be for the fact that your original file (the one you submited) is a Brood War type of map. Urmom's file is not Brood War. Maybe he should have saved it as brood war...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Urmom(U) on 2005-11-08 at 15:45:05
You can only open it in Starforge. That is why you get the error in Xtra.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Joshgt2 on 2005-11-08 at 15:47:02
You could try to open it in StarForge and then save it again and then try opening it in X-tra Editor if you need that editor instead of StarForge.

Yea sorry that's what I meant to do. You just re-save the file I think and it should fix it but it is openable now in StarForge at least.
