Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> StarForge -> My friend says Starforge can corrupt maps...

...even when you only use it to modify terrain and nothing else. Is he right or am I right? I think using it for terrain only keeps you in safe, but if he's right, what program should I use for square terrain from now on?

Starforge does not corrupt maps. Period. (This does not include you doing stupid things).

...unless you count completely destroying the DD2 section and screwing up isometrical terrain (that is, if you "only edited terrain" as the OP said). Also the imported wavs get corrupted if you have more than one. There may be other things that I'm missing too.

By the way, most of this (except for isometrical terrain) happens if you open/save a map. Nothing "stupid" about that.

Corrupting a map meaning it displays the error "map is corrupted" when you try to run it.

That sets a pretty low standard for "map corruption".

A better one would be if any data gets deleted/made unreadable/is missing from a map where it should normally exist.

Even if starforge was to say corrupt a map it saves .Bak files that you would be able to open.

StarForge 1.2 has been adding odd triggers and turning others off in smoe of the maps that I mod and make. I only us StarForge for the reason of terrain making but now I have moved to SC Draft for something like that.

Just get 2.2 or Plus

That is what I did and now I don't have any problems. I don't like the 1.2 version but 2.2 is a lot nicer

Starforge only corrupts if you do something to corrupt it. But general use is fine.

Yes it does screw sounds up (Major map inflation), but I found a way to fix it.
Add sounds last (With StarEdit/Xtra)
--or--
1. Open your map with WinMPQ
2. Delete the list file
3. Close WinMPQ
4. Open your map with üBeR@TiOn
5. Press F8 (or go to Options->Audio Compression->High Compression)
6. Save your map.
NOTE: You may not want to do this every time you change something. But unless you are testing with other people, you wont have to.

NOTE2: I suggest you do the 2nd method with any map that has sounds. It compresses them really small biggrin.gif

Starforge used to resize the map on protection, but since this caused crashes in SC I removed that "feature" in 2.2.

The solution to the runtime error 11 problem is in the troubleshooting thread.

Starforge does not:

Lag map,
Corrupt maps,
Disable maps,
and
Perfect maps.

Neither does any other editor out there, they run the some main files and use the same information. There are errors in the program, but they will not corrupt the map. Like the protection, and map resize.
