You make a round markup around the square image and make it transparent.

No, you don't need PS, having infraview helps though. Cut out the picture in paint, then save it. Open in infranview and select save as GIF put the transparent as the colour that's filled in around teh circular picture.

Omigosh! A pirate! Uhm.. Yeah, Photoshop is recommended, you can also do it in PSP, Paint Shop Pro, but it's not as efficent as PS
