Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> Pirates Attack A Cruise Ship
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Jordan on 2005-11-08 at 19:20:39
Okay. Just maybe an hour ago, my mom read me and dad this article in the newspaper.
Well, it was talking about how they called it "Pirates" but you know it's terrorists when they involve rocket launchers, grenades, and other weapons.

Well they hijacked the Cruise Ship and they killed a few people. Parts of the cruise ship were blown away and this one women which had her wall in her room blown off. She was alive because she was taking a shower.

Finally somebody smart enough had use their cellphone and call in the Coast Gaurds. The Terrorists finally retreated after they heard the very loud tones of the coast gaurd's boats.

What do you think? Crazy that the people thought they were pirates? Say what you think or ask questions about the article I will be glad to find it for you.

They sound nothing like terrorists, just sound like pirates. Terrorists are like organized crime just a little bit more noble. They usually do stuff for poltical or religious reasons.

But ya, coast guard would've kicked their ass. They had capn crunch commanding them. He would've so crunch-a-tized them.

Yeah exactly what Musician said. What really gets me is why they would attack a cruise liner confused.gif .
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Jordan on 2005-11-08 at 20:10:29
A warning perhaps?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by HorroR on 2005-11-08 at 20:15:34
A warning of what? Where exactly did these pirates come from?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kashmir on 2005-11-08 at 21:14:14
They are not terrorists. They are somali's, they have been doing this for a while, just because they tried a hit on a cruise liner does it reach the papers. There are pirates in the caribbean. They hit big ships or rich looking ones to ransom back. Please read the whole story fierce and don't assume. They also didn't retrea because of the coast guard. They retreated because the liner made it out to open sea, where the pirates boats cannot stand. If you don't believe me I will even get the article. Remember:

When you ASSUME you make an ass out of u and me.

I heard this a few days ago. Maybe more than one cruise ship has been attacked. But the story I heard said the cruise ship got away without any casualties. Also, the article said "pirates." I seriously doubt they were terrorists. Not every bad thing in the world is the terrorists' fault. It's possible for just about anyone to buy illegal weapons and artillery on the black market. It wouldn't make me a terrorist (well not Middle Eastern) if I were to buy machine guns or whatnot. The pirates seemed to be after some bullion as opposed to demoralizing a country or something.

I actually chuckled a little at the idea of some scurvy dogs trying to take on the high seas in this day and age.

Yeah no one died or had part of the ship blown up... They didin't do it for a warning kind of thing, there were passengers on that cruise ship. If you can afford going on a cruise ship you are probably at least middle class people. Therefore you have money which others like. There was only one guy that was slightly injured. Or it could just be another one but this is the most recent attack that I've heard of a few days ago.

I thought they tried to hjack the ship but failed becuase the captian of the ship steered the ship so that it would ram the terrorists and etc...

Yea I think cruise ships now a days should at least carry a couple cruise missles, depth charges, M16s and TOW rocket launchers just to be safe hahaha /sarcasm.

Well if you are very poor robbing a rich cruise ship wouldnt be a bad idea. No one would defend it(how could they? knives?) Tourists are practically walking wallets. But with modern technology and communications it would be very hard to rob the ship and get away before the coast guard comes.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kashmir on 2005-11-08 at 22:50:56
not really.. maqny U.N. ships have been hijacked and ppl are still captive. We don't know where they are, and even if we did it would be another Somalia for us.

No the captain put the ship towards open seas and called for help. Then he turned off the communications so he couldn't be tracked.

But yes, even cruise ships should have some weapons, such as rifles (M-16's, Galil's, etc.) at least pistols.

Nicknamed *Coasties* because they normally don't see this sort of action.

Anyway, attacking a Cruise Ship sounds exactly like the thing pirates would do. Cruise Ships = Rich Folks. Pirates are still around, look out Steve Zisou! cool1.gif (Great movie)

If they wanted money they should have simply started working for cruise lines. (They get paid very well, plus tips)

Oh man, I just checked out the article on Wikipedia about pirates, and apparently, over $13 billion worth of goods and money is lost to pirates each year. That's ALOT! That's almost as much money as the Star Wars franchise has made in its entire history! That's more than six times the wealth of Donald Trump. There are pirates all over the world that employ modern technology to do their swashbuckling. Check it out, it's pretty interesting (article). Indeed, pirates are VERY much alive.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Sie_Sayoka on 2005-11-09 at 04:48:39
they should still wear eye patches, have peg legs, hooked hands, and talking parrots with thier own little eye patches. THAT would be great.

It pails in comparison with the national debt that we dig ourselves into.

True, but maybe if Bush were to secretly enlist pirates, we might have a chance to pay it back, LOL! But still, I didn't even know pirates still existed, much less the amount of money that they take. I was kinda surprised.

Maybe you should read what Euro says about ASSUMEing things.

This cruise ship had no problems. Sounds like pirates will soon need a new carrier.

I was watching the news a few days back about this. Its quite amazing if you ask me, Some one going around acting like pirates?

If it is terrorists, why would they attack the ship? I must of missed some of the news report. I dont see what they would need on the ship.

Someone explainzor please? lol.

It's not terrorists, that's pretty stupid. It's obviously pirates...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by DT_Battlekruser on 2005-11-10 at 00:53:47
No proof it's terrorists, chances are it most certainly wasn't anyway. It isn;t exactly hard to get RPGs these days.

[center]Prostitute, Assasin, Pirate. 3rd oldest profession in the world.
Yes this was a pirate attack, but it didn't go along with the old 'Yarg ye scurvy dogs, gimmie all yer d'bloons and gold!' No cannons instead, RPGs. No peg legs or eye patches, but camo and ammo belts. Pirates are still around, and they're keeping up with the times.
This was a FORM of terrorism. It was not a terrorist attack.
They never boarded the ship, and I don't think anyone died. I don't have very accurate information on this attack, I'm just going from the random pieces I hear on the news.
It was simply a robbery.
Now, GIMMIE ALL YER D'BLOONS AND GOLD! Wishin' to walk tha plank!? Yarg, this be how we do it olde style!

what is a pirate? does it apply to ships only?

because once in a while you hear about airplane robberys where the robber gets all the cash and stuff from the occupants of the plane and then parachutes it.

I guess a pirate would be a person who makes a living out of being a theif. They seem to have the distinct trait of overtaking vessels of various kinds (usually seaborne ships). I guess you could say all pirates are theives, but not all theives are pirates.

basiclly if you want info on this, think the opposite of the first post as it is entirely wrong. Doodan is right with the thieves saying.
