Simple question.. Is there a limit to the size of the map file? Could you have a yottabyte map!

I never reached a limit, but ive reached far enough so the dl doesnt show at all, and if it did, its extremely extremely slow. It reached 933 KB (955,981 bytes).

Yea Silver-Dragon is right, Im not sure if there is a limit, but if you make it to big it will be the longest download on starcraft. Have you ever just put like a song on a map thats only about a minute, even that would take about 10 to download, on starcraft I mean. Try to think of it like "a music download" *wink wink* it takes about 1-5 to download a song thats only about 2-5 minutes...

Nobody has hit any kind of filesize limit on a map. I've seen maps well over 10Megs and they work perfectly fine. You will probably run out of strings using so many .wav's though.

Well, there is no known file size limit, but there's the common sense limit. Noone's going to sit in the game lobby DLing a 1GB map. It is, although, possible to put a map that size up for DL on a website... Like Staredit.net! I think I remember a game with KingKahoona where the map was around 10MB and he was actually uploading the map to Battle.net, it was very weird.

The filesize limit of a map is the size of your hard drive.
You;d have a hard time playing a 1.6TB map. Or finding a 1.6TB hard drive.

There actually is a "limit" to the size of maps you can make, but not in the sense you think of it.
Many years back a friend of mine by the name of asdfjg made a map called TED, "The Eternal Download". It is IMPOSSIBLE to download that map, because after waiting several hours watching "Comedy Central presents", the dl will reset itself! I personally had that experience; there was no one else in the room (you couldn't dl it with anybody else there but the host), the host's dl was at 5 ( ), and it reset itself when my dl got to 64.
I don't know if there is a byte limit to a map size, but there IS a limit to the downloading size on the Battle.net server.

I could have sworn that there is only 4 map sizes you can pick unless you want it to crash. It says it on starforge and scmdraft but idk about xtra editor.
