Well before i say anything, im sure some people will come in and go OMG WTF...

But can we just have the old word filter back? censored.gif was way better than "fark"

'shiz'...etc, its my opinion but we can discuss this.

stop complaining, they are obvious a stick stuck in the marianes trench's mud, and aren't going to budge.

Why not instead of changing it you say censored.gif instead of letting it correct you with Shiz, Fark ect.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Merrell on 2005-11-13 at 20:57:54
It looks crappy with all of these censored.gif smileys everywhere. I like the word changes.

Oh, and No_Authority, I guess you weren't here long enough but that's what it WAS like. That's what he wants again but it's a bad idea anyway.

Why do we even have to say censored.gif anyways..

I know what he ment I think I saw it but anyway instead of letting it correct you or saying the bad work just do the censored.gif ahead of time if that is what his preference is

How the hell is it complaining?

If it were up to me, there wouldn't be a filter. But it isn't up to me, or you, so just deal with it.

I think you should be able to talk normally without using any profanity, don't you think?

I agree with Zombie, the "censored" smiley sticks out and makes overusage of curse words highly visible.

That was me that said it, sir. tongue.gif

I liked the old one with the censor smiley. You can tell when they were actually saying it, unless they put the emoticon on purpose.

How about something like f censored.gif k? I'd be willing to do that. Sadly there's spaces in there which I can't remove.

That sounds about right!

Even though I like Moose's suggestion because you can actually infer what was the word being used and get more meaning out of the sentence, it looks more profesional to have a censored.gif .

For now, instead of "fark" you could just censor it yourself and insert the smilely until an Admin can change the filters (which doesn't take more than 10 minutes, it takes more time to think about it than change it).

Oohhh ohhh I got one! How about S***, F***, or F**k, and S**t and so on!

I guess its just to obvious for you people...

hey fark and shiz was alot better than blam
Report, edit, etc...Posted by RexyRex on 2005-11-14 at 20:30:37
The censored.gif smiley was the best option. You can never satisfy everybody.
I'd use those or just remove the filters competely, I don't think anybody's going to have a problem with them. In the first StarCraft (non-expansion), you here everything but "f**k". So, if we're using the "13+ rating = 13+ site" logic, then "f**k" should be the only thing censored.

He should keep frontal fun hole though, and and posterior fun hole. Just for adding hilarity where it doesn't belong. happy.gif

Haha, Syphon. Why not just have personalized censors in v5? That'd satisfy everyone.

Having personalized smileys for everyone would be too haevy on Bandwith and space for the little importance that it has. It'll also be too troublesome for the mods to make srue they are all apropiate.

A problem arises within your sarcasm, they could just set the swear to the same word.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by RexyRex on 2005-11-15 at 20:48:24
How about a user configureable option to change the swear filters on and off for that member, then? That'll make everyone happy.

Filter Words For People Under 18, If They Lie About Their Age Then It's Not Your Problem.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by The_Shattered_moose on 2005-11-15 at 20:56:53
I really like the idea of having a custom swear filter for each person, they would all then go through a second filter onsite to make sure they hadn't just put the swearwords themselves as the filtered words. However, this does seem to scream "high bandwidth use" to me.
