Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> New Kind Of Multiplayer Play?

Inspiration: In the movie map "Kill Me!", you notice that it's really hard to say anything, since there's a trigger as follows:

Condition: blah blah blah
Effects: Display [

(some more Enter's)
Message message message]
Preserve Trigger

What happens is the Enter's keep squeezing your own messages out, and the preserve trigger makes it repeat continuously.

My idea is, what if you make some kind of PvP team game, and the players cannot talk to each other outside a designated area (e.g., base), and outside the area they can only use signals.

For example:
Condition: Current player brings exactly 0 men to Base Location
Effects: Display [|PCFredZ's Team Arena

]
Preserve Trigger

if the player needs to use signals, this will be done by unload units from a bunker, for maximum speed, hotkey the bunker. as there are quite a few terran infantry units AND heroes, there can be many different messages. for maximum impact, these signals can be sound/speech files from starcraft itself (remember? ghost: you call down the thunder... and i'll reap the whirlwind). All players can hear the sound, but only when the other player is inside a radius (location) of the player that sends the signal can that other player see who said the message. ergo, teams can figure out prior to leaving their base a combination of sounds to form a message

----Trigger 1
All players
Conditions: P1 brings 1 "Taunt Signal (Marine)" to Outside bunker location
P1 brings 0 "Taunt Signal (Marine)" to Inside bunker location
Current player brings at least 1 men to P1 Location 9x9
Note: the bunker conditions above are used from the tutorial for "casting spells"
Effects: Display [|PCFredZ's Team Arena

Red: Keep it up. I dare ya.

]
Preserve Trigger
----End of Trigger 1

----Trigger 2
All Players
Conditions: P1 brings 1 "Taunt Signal (Marine)" to Outside bunker location
P1 brings 0 "Taunt Signal (Marine)" to Inside bunker location
Current player brings at least 1 men to P1 Location 9x9
Effects: Play wav file "Ghost Taunt"
Run AI Script "Enter closest bunker" at Outside bunker location
----End of Trigger 2

Also, today's my birthday. Happy birthday to me.

Not so great of an idea - players just pause the game and they can send messages quickly anyway.

Plus, I got people on my f list. And I like to talk during my games, its more fun.

I agree with yoshi, plus a dropship can hold twice as much as a bunker. Didnt think about that did ya?

Plus it can hold pretty much any ground unit.
This reminds me of a map idea I thought of;
Midi MAker map.

This map is when I'd minimize and use AIM and such to talk to other players. Or, to eliminate minimizing, find a version of Windowed StarCraft that works with the new patch. tongue.gif

I know what u mean, but u can put up away message. the point of these triggers, however, is to get the atmosphere of silent suspense, etc.

Players: All players
Condition: Always
Effects: Change Alliance to All Players to Ally
Turn off shared vision for (all players except current player)
Preserve trigger

If you apply these triggers and the triggers from the first thread to a sniperz, you'll get a genuine, realistic capture the flag game.

Unfortunately, by the time you hit alt-tab, you might be already dead.

Nice, I never thought of that, mainly due to the fact that I never read it before.

Overall this kinda map would be for people who wanna play a realistic first-person shooter game in starcraft. Though personally i'm not really interested in fps games myself, there may be others, which is why I'm sharing this info here, in case if anyone else after me may need an example or idea.

I know I can't request to close a topic, but this is getting kinda awkward... pinch.gif

Final word:
First person is being in the eyes of the person, not directly on top with a following camera. That's third person, make sure you get your knowledge straight before you try an idea like that.

i know what first person is, guess i just wasn't paying attention to what i was typing...

considering that there's no way you can get true 1st person in starcraft, it should have been obvious...

Sigh, you don't use Starcraft in Window Version do you? You don't hit alt and tab, you just minimise and talk, or have them all up at the same it, it makes starcraft work like this Explorer so that it can have things in front and all, and if using a dropship, why not a shuttle or overlord?

Or you can be really clever, and have two locations on top of each other and set them to higher and lower, and have zerg units burrowing to do things, wow, now thats means almost LOADS! doesn't it! smile.gif

or everyone just gets skype and a mic and tada problem solved, anyway for the map idea i think its a cool idea but i dont think it would be popular on b.net since people just likes to communicate.. anyway its still a great idea biggrin.gif

alt tab as in switch from im window back to sc, i do have windows, please don't start insults by implying i use a mac. i didn't choose pcfredz for my master screen name (staredit, bnet, yahoo...) cuz i'm a crazy mac fanatic tongue.gif

It's actually a clever idea , but impratical for battle.net due to the friends list and people will begin to hate you if you don't respond to them (not that its your fault)

Well, the idea of use mpq messages is not bad. I like it. But not silencing the text messages. You could have both.

No you DON'T (SWEARING SWEARING) get it, its not the OS i am talking about, i run STARCRAFT (READ) Starcraft on a Windows VIEWER, so i can Maximise and Minimise and Close it that way, and i see my toolbar below, its a special version of Starcraft...

Dude, if you're using a half decent version of Windows StarCraft all you have to do is simply click any area outside of StarCraft. Such as the messenger window of who you're talking to. tongue.gif

ok, i get it. thingy sounds pretty cool, but where do i get it?

Hmm, hard to say, i sometimes look around SMEMPIRE.ORG or SAMODS.ORG or CAMPAIGNCREATIONS.ORG, but they are linkless at the moment and mostly up for repair...
