I just wanted your opinion on this topic.
I feel that like or hate the military we have, they have earned the right to promote themselfs and encourage others to join their ranks by traveling to schools. No one is forcing you to join the army, I mean if you don't like the recruiters, ignore them - even if they are talking directly to you.
Its also seen as a slap in the face to many military men/women, like that or not. Also you should note that the Coast Gaurd is part of the Military and they mainly resque boaters etc.. and they are bad too?
I just feel that military recruiters deserve a place in our lifes, becuase with out them we would be nothing.
Thoughts/comments/ideas?
I have no opinion in the matter.
Sure they're annoying if you don't want to join up, but so what?
I guess they shoulda let 'em stay.
They should stay, recruiters give great free stuff
Yeah they do, I got this black and gold (metal) Army pen and my gosh its the best pen I have right now haha.
I like their stickers too haha
I don't really mind them much because they don't ever talk to me. There's a table of military recruiters at my college every day. I've walked past them 100 times and they don't even bother me. But let me tell you this true story: One day I was walking by them and there were 3 black guys right behind me. The recruiters didn't even look at me, but as soon as the black guys got close, they stood up and starting talking to them. I do believe the military preys on race. That's one thing I don't like about them. But I think they should be allowed to advertise themselves. If it's a tradeoff we get instead of a draft, them I'm all for it!
What exactly is the situation? If they have people going to schools and holding seminars on why they should join the army, then of course it should be removed. If they are simply there for information and it is voluntary, then I support it because it's another option for kids after high school.
If we were in world peace, I would say ban them. But sadly enough, we're not. Let them stay. A few of my friends at school are going no where after high school, and the military wouldn't be a bad option for them.
I think its different for many schools. I think some schools, like once a quarter, hold a half hour seminar for the military to show their stuff, sort of like an assembly. At my school, I think once or twice a month (not sure they randomlly show up) Put up two tables in the cafiteria, and those who are interested just walk over.
I think both ways should be excepted becuase again I feel they deserve the right to be in schools, I mean whats so bad about them? Serving your country is one of the best ways to show respect/graditude/protection/many more, honor like.
Now about the race issue, none of that is ok. But a couple situations shouldn't speak for the entire military.

That's how it is at my school. In the cafeteria there's just a table where the military recruiters are. They aren't annoying and don't bother me at all.
I think they're fine as long as they don't get in the way.
There is absolutely no reason schools should be forced to let people come around advertising a highly dangerous career. It is not the fault of the City of San Francisco we all of a sudden need more troops.
Students have a right not to subject to the pointed and strongly convincing talk of military recruiters.
There is no reason from this that San Francisco should be denied military protection or any other garbage like that. That Fox News guy is such an ass for INVITING AL Quaeda to blow up Coit Tower.
They have a program called Marine Corps' Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps.
Or MJROTC.
Everyone calls them the Rotc Nazis.
Basically, they receive all the training required to be in the Reserves frsh out of high school. I don't think that's right.

Why do you feel that they have no right to be in schools? Why are they bad?
Also, I also watched that Fox broadcast and its called sarcasm.
I think its just wrong for military recriters to be in schools. Sure, you can irgnore them but thats not the point, its the fact that they're there. The military is also one of the most freaking racists organizations ever. I will admit my brother did very badly in high school and he had a gpa of about 1.2. He's been doing ok in colledge though with like a 3.0. Anyway, the rest of the 3 kids in my family have 3.3+. Guess who got a letter adressed to them everyother day asking them to join the military? My brother with the 1.2. I happen to go to a school with a low % of black kids but so I don't know if the fact that they're targeted is completely true but I'm imagining it is.
Its also complete bullshiz that schools don't even have the option now to deny military recruiters to come to schools ever since bush's no child left behind act and ever since that act as well, the military has access to all of our school files.
Besides all that, I just don't like the military and all of its stuff. If we had a WWIII america army would die in like 6 months because we have no oil supplies near us that are sufficient for a war. And don't mention alaska because it only has like 6 months of oil at our current rate which would only triple if we had a huge war.
How old are you and your brothers? Once you turn 18 you will get many letters from the Army, litterly every one does. My older brother (who is now 23) is white, upper middle class, 3.6 GPA, got letters from the Army all the time. I know I will start getting letters soon cause Im 17 and about to turn 18 in less then 9 months. You start getting the letters when you have registered for the draft once your 18, which you must do.

Yeah, I've gotten a few letters since I turned 18. I only did what was required of me by law. Since the military is voluntary right now, I'm not gonna join and keep my fingers crossed that no draft opens up.
But I don't know if they would want me. Sure, I'm able-bodied, but I have full custody of my son and I don't think they force single parents that are taking care of their kids to go. Does anyone know for sure?
I know that if your in college, and can prove it you will not be drafted. Thats why my dad never went to Vietnam was becuase he was getting good grades at College or something.
Yeah I think they will draft you anyway, so you might want to get married or get a girl friend real soon to take car of your son if you join the army.
Also how old are you? They tend to draft younger men first before they go to older men.

I'm 21 and in college. Technically, I'm single. Just haven't found anyone that quite fits. I date plenty, but that doesn't mean relationships, ya know!

They don't have a given right to be in schools against the will of the school. If the people at the school don't wish to be bothered by recruiters, they shouldn't be forced to.recruiters cannot shove themselves in front of you and force you to talk to them... or they are really really hyporcritical... if they ask you a few questions... just say, i dont want to be recruited with the army, thanks but that is not my thing i like.
THey would probably leave you alone. If there are any recruiters they cannot recruit anyone underage (me... yippeee) lol. But people who do not want to go through all the trouble of signing up could sign up with the recruiters...
Let them stay... If they want me to go to the army because of my traits... ill think of it, but w/e
And they do have a right to defend the country...
(I feel like talking about the same thing and random things all at once... sorrry)
mmm interesting, so why do you feel they don't want recruiters in their schools?
I actually have no evidence to back this one up. I know I'm being very hypocritical when I say this, but I just have a gut feeling that it's wrong.

Does it matter? They don't, and it's their right not to be bothered.uh... i have no comment because i have not seen a recruiter in my life nor did one ever come to my school... i guess Hawaii banned them or they just dont like coming here.
anyway i think that schools should decide whether or not the recruiters can come to schools not the city. Also i think it should be manditory for the people in the JROTC classes since thats basically what the class is for.
We're waging a war overseas, in a environmentally and politically hostile country full of insurgents whom want to take their land back from us.
We need more soldiers in Iraq if we are going to stay the course, so recruiters should be allowed to go and recruit.

Yeah, the land we
stole.
Many of these so called 'insurgents' are civilians being shot because these young soldiers are shooting anything that moves out of pure fear. More people die here in the US because of disease, car accidents, etc. that in Iraq. It's really not very bad. Have you seen their casualties? Or better yet, have you seen their
civilian casulaties?
