I hope this is the rght place to post but what the hell anyway, with the use map settings maps, you have defense/offense, rpg, arena / click, etc
Maybe someone should put in a single player? i have played alot of maps that can be done single player and i belive that they deserve there own catagory!

It's a pretty good idea. Single player maps are practically a different type of map...
Personally, if I was using the DLDB looking for multiplayer maps, I would like the single player maps weeded out.

If the campaign catagory was mostly single player, it could become the single player catagory.
It might not be necessary if there isn't a good % of single player maps in the DLDB as well.

Other than that, it's up to the dldb keepers... they'll probably have to sort the maps out and into the new catagory.

Otherwise, it could be a map upload option... Is this map [] multiplayer [] single player and then search filters could be put into place.

If it's a single player RPG, it'd be still an RPG, so I'd go with checking a box instead of an entirely different genre.

The problem with adding Single Player as a new category, as PCFredz stated, is that it would conflict with the other categories.

What I'd suggest is something similar to the .scm and .scx categories.

We would also need help to sort the thousands of maps into Single Player or Multi Player.
The best way to do this is to have a 2 week period in which DLDB Keepers won't be sorting the maps out, but it will be the submitters and/or authors themselves who will be sorting it out. This way it'll diminish out workload by a whole lot.

I agree with KEG on this one, it would take DLDB Keepers alot of time, but he is right about "us" going along and moving anything, btw: Will this be read by a DLDB keeper at all?

I am a DLDB keeper, but it's not like I can't code stuff extra into the categories. That's an administrators job. wink.gif

Well do u reckon it will be done? i would be happy to do it smile.gif (Oh p.s, i am now going to school and i might not be able 2 post for 6 hours!)

If the Administrators are willing to code it, then it will surely be done. I highly doubt it'll be done in SeNv4, but I do expect it to be implemented into SeNv5.

Wicked, (lol i am going in around 20 min so keep talking) I for one enjoy playing single player maps alot!

Agreed as above, a checkbox; not a category. I have never seen a single player map that doesn't fit.

LoL i reckon we need it, some people (like me) lag with over 2 people on multiplayer! so i belive we need it for single player map lovers!

Maybe in v5 everything should be converted into a 'label' instead of a 'folder' (to use gmail's terms) - that is, all files can be described by one or more labels, as opposed to having to put everything into mutually-exclusive folders.

That way, if someone happens to make a two-or-four-player defence map which is featured, you can show all of that information without having to make a choice as to whether it is more easily found in "defence" or in "featured", and people searching either label will still find the map.

I reckon we might be going somewhere with this smile.gif

Hmmm... in_a_biskit... interesting...

However... completely... complicated in the way maps could have more than one label. It's nice, but just too dynamic. Switch type attributes are a lot easier and could probably mimick the overall idea...

"Featured" could be considered a switch in senv5 instead of a catagory... so instead of the folder, it'll simply be a link that sets a search for you ~ catagories : all, featured: yes, single player: yes & no

Single player is an easy switch... can be a simple link to set up a basic search

And then map catagories would still be the same... which is again, a search in of itself... catagory: rpg, featured: yes & no, singple player: yes & no

And then you got your real search page, where you can specificly include the exact catagories and the switches you want.

Map spotlight can be a switch as well... and instead of how it's currently set, any number of maps can be set on the map spotlight, however, 3 random ones would only be recalled at a time.

Other searchable filters are file type (scx / scm), author, title...

Featured should really be reanmed to staff maps or something like that. It gives the false impression that all the maps in featured ae excellent (which they are, but some good maps arent in there).

Shotgun is right (no offence featured dudes) but i dnt like any of the maps in featured! (no idea why) but i reckon Purity has got the right idea

It could happen with broadband too, especially when you play WoS3.tongue.gif

But that doesn't make it Single Player.

LoL i got broad band and i lag, same with WoS3 it lags with 3 people, no idea why i reckon its my firewall and i aint game enough to disable it!

Man.. you overuse the word reckon..

Featured maps should be changed to Staff'd Maps or something simular.

I think what I'm calling a 'label' is pretty much the same thing as what you're calling a 'switch'. But yeah, like you said as well, some things are better as switches rather than as categories, like "featured" and "singleplayer".

I like the idea for the random map spotlight pool.

WoS3 is lagged down by triggers, don't worry about it.

Then how come i join a simple 2v2 and i lag, 2 people leave and i dnt?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by PCFredZ on 2005-11-29 at 18:19:30
Less triggers are running when they leave, since triggers are only checked for the player present.
