There seems to be a lot of useless posts and junk being thrown around in Music & Sound, so I'm going to be upfront about it.

Topics like these:

http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopic=20253&st=60
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopic=23306

Why are they here? Am I the only one who is annoyed by them?

Posts like these:

http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopic=20253&st=60#
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopic=23197#

Why is there such a lack of respect for the topic of the thread (does anyone really need to know that at some unknown date something may happen that's loosly based on an offhand remark in the thread?), and the equality of people (no one needs two posts of the same thing).

If no one else is annoyed by this, obviously I'll just have to live with it (or piss off and find another site instead of trying to change things), but I'm curious if anyone else thinks this is making the music forum just another null.

Thanks for you time,

I closed the 'randomish' poll. But can you tell me why the "What music do you like better?" poll should be closed? I wanna know why exactly you think it's bad.

Got any more?
Would you personally have something against me moving the "What are you listening to" thread to the music forum? I'm curious smile.gif

Sorry, I right-clicked on the post#, clicked "Copy link location" and didn't test.

Edit: The new one is an example of something saying something that doesn't really need to be said, and then saying something completly off topic taking away from the purpose the thread, and endangering the creaters intentions for the thread.

Those are the posts I meant to link to. I'd asumed Music & Sound was meant for more serious discussion about music, because "what are you listening to" wasn't in it, and topics like "post a picture of what the person above you said" don't go in the images forum. They're forum games no one really seems to read through.

I thought "What music do you like better?" was a spammish topic because it doesn't include all genres (which would obviously be impossible) and it doesn't really make people think about what other people are saying... it seems many people won't even read anything other than the topic title and maybe the first post. If it were a topic like, describe why you like your favorite genre of music, it would probably be less spamish. I just don't think Music and Sound should be a place of forum games (because no one really cares about what other people said in forum games).

I don't really care for Mp)Marine. Creative Works exist so that you can show some non-map related bit that you made. Maybe the name "The Show Off Forum" would fit it better. Polls like "whut musik do u lik betur dood" are not artist accomplishments.

I'm for that idea. Save the discussion topics for 'Serious' 'Light', and 'Null', they get more exposure there anyway.

The one with the Creed and stuff, that's a crappy poll...
Eh.. I think SEN should make a bunch of sub forums for Null, like forum games, ranting, questions, and so on.

lol.. getting off topic a little bit... (oh n0ez)...
Do you think it should be that way? I've been contemplating changing it so you just have to copy the link location...

But... your argument is solid enough...

It would be awesome if you did that. I only get ticked when people get off topic if it's for something selfish like, advertising your own unrelated topic.

Thank you very much for taking it into consideration,

Keep in mind that IE doesn't have an option to 'copy link location'; would it be possible for it to work both ways (copying link location and the current click > popup both work)? In any case, I don't think that it's really any easier either way.

I've never seen people going off topic for reasons like that... [/offtopic]

On the complaint about offtopic posts and "useless" topics, I think either you've chosen not-very-good examples, or you're overreacting. I don't see too many of them, and they're not too hard to ignore.

You can hardly say that repeating oneself is an attack on "the equality of people"; and going off topic is tolerated by most people - anyone who feels that they want to get the topic back on track can normally do so simply by posting back on topic again.

You have to tolerate a little bit of spam and offtopic conversation and badly expressed posts, or else the forums shouldn't exist at all.

You ask, "Should something be done?" - what exactly do you have in mind that you want done? Moderators to delete offtopic posts?

Nice one HeRtZ, if you ignore that I made my own topic, in the appropriate forum to encourage a change in the community I consider to be positive. AND OMG, how did you know I like men that way?! It's like you're a mind reader!

Whens the last time you posted in Music & Sound? Posts there are rare enough without having most of them be meaningless.

I would say if one tries to make their opinion seem more important, either by gigantic font or by spamming it, they're not being fair that other people have opinions too. If everyone posted their stuff twice, or made their font super big, would that be nice to read through? I tolerate off topic conversations in highly active topics, where they make a post to the main topic anyway... It's disrespectful to the creater of the topic when 25% of the posts in his or her topic have nothing to do with his or her topic.

Well if you'd care to look at the poll, it seems like I'm not the only one.

Pin explaining stricter rules, so moderators don't feel uncomfortable calling a shot. Or Wilhelm's idea, which I guess is a big change, but I like it.

I'll give you the last word and then I'll close this topic. So make it count =)

There just one in the Maps in Production forums!! A topic named aaaaaaaaaaaaa and that was it... I don't see the point in that and I would consider it being spam. I am not a mod or anything but I told the guy/girl not to do something like that again.

Yes you do, it's called 'Copy Shortcut'. Firefox is better anyway.
