Earlier this month, South Korean cloning pioneer Prof. Hwang Woo Suk resigned after admitting that two of his junior researchers donated eggs for his 2003 embryo research, after succesfully managing to clone a puppy and clone a human embryo. He has faced severe criticsm, from the public, the media and the world.
Does he deserve all these? After all, all he wanted was to treat cancer for patients around the world. True, he broke the 'unwritten rules' of using donated female eggs. However, they were donated, not forcefully taken, for the sole purpose of research and benefit towards mankind.
I feel that he has helped achieve a first and has contributed significantly towards humanity and that he does not deserve such harsh criticism. South Koreans, including myself, feel that he should be congratulated upon, as he has not done any real harm...
What are you guys' opinions?
I agree that he doesn't deserve this. He was doing great work that would have benifitted all of mankind. Hopefully someone will take over his work...

Very true because although he broke some rules, the outcome was great wasn't it?
It's just like this:
Your mother offers you to help in your homework. You get full marks.
Well, it's a good outcome, so who really cares how he did it? (unless it was inhumane)
I think that he should get re-posted back to his position in the World Stem Cell Hub
Cloning is nothing unholy. It's just a different way of creating life.
Infact, I can create life right now. I can go drug a prositute, have sex with her, and bam I'll have a kid. I don't see much of a difference, cause creating life is creating life.
I strongly support cloning, I think cloning someday should be available to normal people like you and me. I don't care if he broke the rules, the rules are lame, I break the rules, just smaller rules... I hate it how cloning is illegal.. God doesn't exist in my opinion, so what's wrong with cloning? Isn't that the creationists argument vs cloning, that God said stuff like that shouldn't be done?
I'd certainly hate it if I had a fatal disease, they cloned me, and replaced me with the clone.
It's an unwritten rule, whats wrong with breaking them?
He shouldn't be treated like this, he did nothing wrong.

i agree with that it is an imposter, but it is the same as making a baby the 'ol fashion way, accept it grows at a faster rate (it does right?) and it makes a twin.
Not a twin, a replica. Even identical twins have slight differences that are just so small they are rarely noticed. The clones personality I believe would be different, because it would have different experiences. I think it could turn out to be a completely different person than the original, depending on the way it was raised. Take me for example, I am a decent swimmer, but I am deathly afraid of the water, because I have phobias about drowning brought on from nearly drowning when I was three years old, if that had not happen I may have become something like a world champion in swimming, who knows. All these little experiences affect a person so much that the clone would pretty much qualify as an individual, except appearance.. I think it would be interesting to clone a person several times say twenty five, and give each clone a different raising from ages maybe 0-10 and see how different each one was. This would qualify with some people as inhumane, but it just depends how you look at it.. I am definetly all for this guy being placed back in his old position..

But it wouldn't be an imposter, it'd be an exact replica of you. Therefore, it would be more like being born agian than anything.
Now you may think I took this from Star Wars, but I thought of this before that.
Clones would be very useful for creating armies. Think about an endless supply of ready and willing soldiers that dont cut out of your civilian population.
ok think of this. why do you think that there is desease? for humans to die. why humans need to die? so they dont overpopulate the earth. increasing immunities and cures will lead to a huge boom in the human population. our earth is on the verge of death.
no one likes to see another human suffer(if you do you are a sadistic illegitimate child) but i think that the human gene pool as well as plants and animals should be left untouched. screwing around with our own genetics can have huge impacts good or bad.
If the plauge did not wipe out europe what do you think earths population would be now? some people say cloning and stem cell is helping humanity i say its destroying it.
there is no stopping it however. when the need comes the millitary would want to clone super soldiers. the perfect soldier with no emotions and that obeys all orders. they can be produced fast and in great numbers. on starwars they look cool but on our own soil it doesnt seem so good.

Sexual intercourse is the way life was supposed to be created, not through cloning. It's playing god too much and has too many possible negative effects. I say he deserves what's coming to him.
God would have smited this man unless he wanted him to continue his research. We were created in his image, therefore we should be able to do what he does.
I love farking with Religion nuts.

By that reasoning you should be living outside without the aid of technology, shelter or even fire. Why? Because obviously cold temperatures, malnutrition and pneumonia were made to kill humans as well.
What do you think Earth's population would be now if we never used or built shelters?
He 100% right on that one, Sie
Good one Shapechanger, I like to say (taken from Homer Simpson) "God if you think I should eat that kid's lunch show me absolutely no sign." Nothing happens, I take the kids lunch, he's like hey wtf? I'm like it was God's will.
Sometimes I tell people I am God, I even started a group where I have a bunch of girls who like me that are my "angels". It's kinda cool getting all this attention from these girls too lol. Back on topic now. Who cares if it's unnatural, I think that our brain was evolved for us to be able to think of things like this. I mean are cars natural either? If you believe in God then do you believe God intended for us to get around everywhere in vehicles that pollute the environment and discourage exercise? God damn all these get turned into stuff about religion, this one I say is partly my fault. QUOTE(NerdyTerdy @ Nov 29 2005, 07:40 PM)

I agree with all of this, cloning will be one of those things that eventually people will realise has unlimited uses. My cloning plan will put vegetarians in their place... Hehehe.

It's not playing God, it's conforming to God. He made free will for a reason, and if he needed too he could put limits on our understanding so we COULDN'T do this.
The first succesful human clone will happen in a third world country. I can see it.

Thats simply because we haven't been able to do it. If scienctists were givin the ability to study the effects of cloning, we could overcome them.
People in the renaissance thought that studying a cadaver was unholy, but that is where almost all of modern medicine developed. Do we still think it's unholy?
Im for cloning organs and such for medical use. But cloning a human being in order to get organs is like treating a person like cattle. Im going to grow a clone so I can then gut it and take all it's organs. It just seems wrong to me.
Not if you clone them brain-dead. That way, it is just like killing cattle because the victim is an empty shell.

I don't see god being mad, I just see his followers.
If we do end up learning how to clone humans, how will that effect life... Things like fingerprints... I can't think of much else...
We have too many people, so you go and make more of the same person? Doesn't make sense to me, unless you're trying to replace me...

So If you were to be cloned, you'd control both of yourself at the same time? It would be a whole different person, seriously. It'd be cloning your BODY but not YOU. Like if you say "If I were you, I'd ...." that's saying if YOU were in HIS body. but if YOU are your BODY, then, what "I" are you talking about?
No, it's not like taking your body. Since a clone would think identically to you, it'd be more or less like Identical Twins. Though I can really only see cloning being used to reincarnate someone when they die, in that case it would be indifferent from being born again.
