Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> [SOLVED] Medic won't blind my observer
Report, edit, etc...Posted by MarcX on 2005-12-08 at 18:14:19
Observer has 81hp/81shield. Optical flare costs 1 energy. I set it to 'researched' for the computer player. I ran turn on vision script for the computer player, to turn on vision from me. It should be able to see the observer. I create a medic, I create an observer next to it. The medic stands still and does nothing. I made sure the computer player had me as enemy. What did I do wrong? -_-; Probably something really simple.

AI script. You're right. It is simple. Just give the computer an AI script and you should be fine.

Any AI script in particular? I just tried like three random terran ones and none of them work.

It shouldn't require any special one. It just needs something to get the computer moving otherwise it just stands there. Do you have a location around the medic and choosing the trigger "Run AI script at location"?

If that doesn't work, try giving the medic an obs, just to help it a little bit.

It still refuses to do it. The ob moves a little, but the medic does nothing.

It doesn't need an AI script for it to work... Try making a detector near the observer for the computer to see if there's something wrong with it making you give the computer vision.

Try setting energy via trigger anyways. Sometimes AI is dumb.

Medics seem to blind like crazy when you shoot them, last time I tried, they blinded everything super fast around them. But, I only tried with offensive units, I haven't tried putting a unit that doesn't attack directly. You can try it though, get a unit to shoot the medic and see if she blinds that unit and the observer.

Yeah I don't think I can recall a time when a medic blinded my observor... They love to blind overlords, though... maybe its becuase their big and ugly... but then again I would blind myself. Computers do love to parasite observors though.

That is due to because you are always using them to spy on other units and why not just see what you are doing. I thought that the medic on a computer team would not touch an offencive unit to blind it, but this is my thought. I have played tons of maps where the AI script for the computer is on insane and I will send my observer down and they will only attack it instead of attacking and blinding it. Why? I don't know.

I gave the medic 100% energy with properties, when creating it.

I already tried creating an observer for the computer player, note a few posts back.

Do I need to attack the medic? I will try that right now.

[Edit]
I attacked the medic with a (100hp) mutalisk. It blinded nor my ob nor my mutalisk. Argh, I don't get it!

It obviuosly has something to do with your magic. I tried it and it worked fine. The medic even blinded my observor when I gave it 80hp, 50hp, 1hp, even 0/1 HP! So that part of the tutorial is obviously wrong.

Here's the map:

Once again, the obs has 0/1 hp (meaning its invincible) just to see if it would work, which it did. So download this map and see if you can compare it to your to find out what you did wrong.

hmm.

thats a bit weird.

whats it for anyway? like wh y do you need it blinded?

I needed an invisible air unit that's not a detector.

Anyway, I did it in that exact order:

Set to 100% energy,
Set to enemy
Get vision

and now it works. -_-; Thanks.
