This has just been pecking at the back of my mind lately, for those of you who don't know, The Ring was a horror movie made a few years ago. I really enjoyed it because nowadays some pretty pathetic excuses of horror movies come out like "The Grudge" or "The Exorcism of Emily Rose". I watched it a few years ago by myself, and afterwards I had discussions with my friends about it. Surprisingly, everyone didn't like it and said it wasn't scary at all, I just couldn't believe that, I thought they were either lieing or they watched it in a theatre (watching a horror movie with all those people screaming and those idiot goths laughing completely ruins the experience). So, what did you guys think of the movie?

I thought it was a good movie. It was based on a Japanese movie (Ringu, which was based on a manga of the same name). The first time I saw it, I was with a girl alone at her place shifty.gif so my full attention wasn't on the movie. But I've seen it a few times since then, and as a horror movie, I thought it did a decent job. One problem with it though, is that it does use a few cliches (like the creepy kid that's been in 2000 movies), but they work. Perhaps it was the lack of gore and "BOO" scares that are a staple in modern horror that turned lots of youngsters off. Gore isn't enough to scare me much, and the "boo" scares are just cheap. I like suspense, and I thought "The Ring" deliverd better than most recent horror movies.

7/10

The Grudge was "scarier" than The Ring. However, I personally thought that both were just way too stupid.

The movie was horrible. I don't want to watch it again, it was so bloody scary. I would give it a 9/10.

Yea, I just don't understand how that can scare anyone.

Ha! The only thing even remotely scary was the boy meowing. Don't confuse surprises with scares.

It wasn't made in Hollywood, and it pretty much destroyed traditional horror styles, I think that's pretty artsy. wink.gif

Thank you for giving a small thoughtless comment and talking about a different movie genre.

Just like the ring!

Actually I have fond memories of it. Me and my cousin were sittinng around watching the matrix while his brother and his friend were watching the ring upstairs, being both 17 they were screaming like little girls and we were downstairs laughing our asses off.

We got everyone in the house to agree not to pick up the phone and grabbed a cell phone, right when the movie stopped playing I called them and did my nice little ring girl impresion. "7 days." They ran out of that room screaming like pigs for the slaughter.

It was a bit creepy, but it wasn't thrilling, nor did it have a great climax, in my opinion. I distaste most horror movies these days. I do commend Saw for being an intelligent thriller and having a superb twist.

Speaking of Saw, the sequel sucked.

Anyway, the best way to enjoy the ring or the ring 2 is to mute and redub it. VERY funny if you are with some creative friends.
