I love to play Capture-The-Flag maps on B.net but to be honest I haven't seen any really good CTF map. I have tried to make a good CTF map since I begun making maps but I have net only for a half year so I always tried to make computer AI for them. In the matter of fact I never made any good CTF map either.

Starcraft Fortress gameplay will be based on tactical thinking and teamplay. You can't win if you don't cooperate with your teammates or if you blindly run into fire. there are several ways to the flag so good tactical thinking and excellent teamplay is essential in Starcraft Fortress.

  • Kill display triggers, this is gona be the hardest part and I will probably make it last.

« Players »

minimal players for conformable game would be 4. But It is highly recommended to play 4 vs 4! game experience may change during full game wink.gif

Space, probably the best tileset for CTF map...

« Map size »

128x96. the battle field is about half of 96 height, the other half is unit selection sections and upgrade buildings.

Pick a special pack of units. And defend your base or try to capture the enemy flag. After death you can pick another pack or the same and respawn immediately.

There probably isn't too much new stuff that can be added to CTF game while keeping it simple and fun for players, which is my highest priority for this map.
However I will add a new system that displays kills, like in Half-Life games "p1 kills p2" and such.



[Unit packs]


There will be 2 teams and 4 forces. Each team will have Defence and Offence force. Unit pack options will differ for each force. 2 players in each force.

« Defence packs »
  • Engineer (SCV) + 500 mins [can build 2 sentry turrets, cost 250]*
  • Sniper team (4 ghosts)
  • Front line squad (2 goliaths + SCV) + 200 mins [can build sentry and repair goliaths for mins]
  • Artillery squad (reaver + 2 marines)
  • Heavy support team (3 dragoons)
  • Suicide team (4 infested terrans) + burrowing

*Sentry turrets will probably be sieged tanks, with high damage but limited to long range.

« Offence packs »
  • Scout (vulture) + 3 mines and speed upgrade
  • Melee squad (5 zealots) + speed upgrade
  • CTF team (4 hero marines + probe) + stims and 200 mins [probe can build teleporters, cost 100]
  • Spy (Hero ghost + probe) + lockdown and cloak and 200 mins [going under cloak costs 220 energy]
  • Assault team (4 firebats + 2 medics) + medic spells, no stims
  • Support team (2 hero templars + probe) + psi storm [cost 80]


Note: Only probes and SCVs can carry the flag.

Capture the flag games are fun. It's jsut peopel ptu it up as UMS and not CTF...

Oh, Dude, thats cool. Ill definately play that. I love capture the flag maps. Not enough. Good terraining.


Special Abilities might be a good idea, but thats All i can think of.

My favorite in my CS map is that engineer(SCV) can build sentry-turret. I will definitely add it here. Also I could add probe that can build different sentry(s).

About other unit specials, I plan to stick with SC specials, like stims, lockdown, heal...
Because I want this as simple to understand for player as possible.

If you find anything how to improve the terrain please tell me tongue.gif

Another idea, how about probe's special would be to build teleporter? Like you build 2 teleporters and you can teleport from one to another tongue.gif

Ok, how should I make it:
  • Buy upgrade for each 10 kills
  • No upgrades
It's like you get gas for kills and 1 upgrade costs 10 gas or something like that...

Nice idea, this could turn out to be a good map. Make sure you add all of that anti-hack stuff and the extra features.

I think he means anti-hack like in the sniper maps. You have units that if their seen starcraft will crash for that player so it eliminates the possibility of maphack (unless a special one was released to let you see everything but those spots).

There is now a "Lite" maphack that isn't crashed by Independent CCs and other things. Certain sprites still crash them though.

- On Upgrades:

I think you should incude upgrades... maybe at every 15 though.

- On ISOM/Square:

ISOM, as long as the beacons aren't too close together.


Looks great DEAD, I was dismayed by the lack of good CTFs also.

I think that the square selection would give it a more modern feel to the game. You should add some sort of prize like traps or something. Upgrades seem like it would rig the game if there was a really good player. He would just get a lot of ups making it more impossible to kill him. Here is a few prizes you could add:
  • Traps to defend base for like 25 seconds
  • Invincibility for like 15 seconds
  • Opponnents can't score with your flag for 25 seconds
  • Vision of the map for 10 seconds
Just small things like that.

Well isn't this a Snipers type game except Capture the flag? I'm just sayign that upgrades could make the experts even better and it could get cheap.

I donno, maybe I should make a poll about it when I am done that far.

ADDITION:
I got this idea for quite a time. How about a kill display. Like in Half-Life games, When player 1 kill player 2 marine it is displayed in the right corner.

Even if something would go wrong it wouldn't change anything else. This would be pretty much triggers, but would be a nice add to map.

Sounds good, I would also like to see special spells included in the map, but not upgrades (I just don't like them). The terrain is good, but I would like to see more obstacles in it.

I really need suggestion about unit groups.

6 Defence groups (1-6 units)

For one group you should use...
-2 Tanks (High damage)
-1 Engineer
