Does anyone think we should enforce quality controls on the files approved from now on? This means that only things that are "good enough" would get in. I'm taking a poll to decide what to do with the DLDB (if anything). Basically, in my mind, it boils down to either the largest compilation of SC files available or the best quality of SC files available. I'm more than willing to clear the whole thing and start blank if that's what should be done. (A lot of work for the DLDB Keepers... might require some hiring). Another option is to keep what we have and re-sort through all the files there with the new quality controls. I would attempt to recode a DLDB, but v5 is going to have that anyway.
Format would probably be the best, but I vote to keep and control further. Because the current DLDB has whole SEN history in it and many, many awesome map makers are long gone so people will have to resubmit other member maps and even so countless fantastic maps will be missing.
But if you do format you should at least keep all the top DL/rating maps and other masterpieces...
Keep whats there and sort through it with quality controls... because if we delete it all, many good maps might be lost and it would take a while to get them all back. This way, SENers can still use the DLDB while it is "cleaned".
Its a great DLDB, but its got alot of crap on it. Sort through it.
Restart.
Sure it would be a lot of work, you could hire people.. but meh.. I think there are a lot of junk files though. The site could use some more DLDB managers though.
Don't touch is for SeNv4, the DLDB will be re-coded entirely so there really is no use for it right now.
For SeNv5 Beta DLDB, hire a bunch of DLDB Keepers(most will be temporary) and let's go through the entire DLDB and clean it up from low quality files. So when we deliver SeNv5, it'll have a high quality DLDB with many of the old files still intact.
For this proccess, let's throw in all 3110+ files into a single makeshift category labeled "Needs to be re-approved". Then we will go in there and approve//deny files from in there.
While this proccess is in motion, all new files submitted into the SeNv4 DLDB will automatically be transfered to the SeNv5 regular approval section, once we are done approving old files, we go ahead with the new ones.
How about you clear out the almost useless sections of DLDB, they are also the biggest
- Bounds
- Wavs
- add yours here
We should sort out everything into subfolders... like this.
Bounds
-Quality Bounds
-Okay Bounds
-Poorly made bounds
Or sometime like that. You could have the whole DLDB vote on what maps are good/okay/bad
jeez if u gonna do that moose, download ALL the files and reupload em, that way we all win
The problem with that system is that you would be deliberately saying that X person is a bad mapmaker and that is one of the last things that we want to do here at SeN.
Re-Categorizing everythign in the DLDB would mean that we'd have a similar problem in the future when low-quality maps start flowing into the good quality maps just like it has happened now.
The problem with "quality" maps is that they are never the same through time. What was once a highly astonishing map back in 2000 is now what people say a half assed attempt at fame.

It's not exactly a problem, that only shows that overall map making quality is improving
Then hire people who are level minded and don't hold grudges against most people (wink wink nudge nudge -_-)
Anyways... Sure, times change, thats why we have the DLDB.. If a map isn't as good as it used to be, it can be sent down. I never said the job of a DLDB manager would be easy
Also, I don't think there would be much quality maps, you see..
What I'm thinking is that there are 5-15 maps that are of high quality per catagory, that way, the DLer will have an easy time choosing a fun map.
I think it could work.. When I want a fun map.. I'd rather not search through 100 maps just to find a good one.
Keep a quality archive, resort and reapprove for SeN v5. Lets face it, we're not getting a large collection anytime soon. Look at starcraft.org. They've got the big archive, we've got the quality.
This is what I would do.
Keep the original database, while creating one like:
http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=downloadsv2That database can be hidden from the public, and you can slowly resort the database. That way, people can still access the original DLDB, while redoing another one. Imo, it could work pretty good.
As for the democracy part, that would be pretty neat. Although, you should make the voting procedures for Regulars and up. Mainly because
most won't abuse the system. MEh... My idea.
Add a Quality tag as the maps come in, and then have an option that says "Hide non-Quality maps". That way we can host the largest assortment of files and the best too.
I like DTBK's idea... It would be a little easier than mine.
But, I say we go through the whole DLDB and give the quality maps quality tags.

Restarting would probably take the.. least work. I'm pretty sure you're thinking of sorting through it.
When I say restart, I mean, save all the files by putting them in a folder on SEN. One by one, Admins, Global Mods, DLDB managers, and maybe tutorial keepers go through them and put them in the DLDB. But it would be quite hard to do that by Democracy.

That is a bit ridiculous. If I submitted one of my maps and found it under "Non-Quality Maps", Id be insulted. (Except for that god damn WH tutorial. Trash that, I dont mind!!) I think that you should just not accept (And delete some of the old maps) very bad quality maps.
If I understand clear then keepers would add the tags. No offence guys but you can't tell that by just testing the map. There is rating function after all, let the public tell how good the map is. Well, except when "rate abuse" happens, but thats rare. Happened once to me, when shorty rated 2 my unrated maps by 1...

Thats the question ppl are trying to answer nowadays.. Do we judge what someone did in the past using todays morality?
Maybe we should change "Quality" to "High-Quality"...
Maybe that would be less insulting?
For Sen v.5 id just restart and if people want old maps just keep a link to this site and have them look for the map
That would suck for the people who had good maps and do not visit SEN.

First of all.. that was totally unnecessary,
Second of all, tell me where you get this awesome 6
th sense that lets you know what i rated your maps.
ANYWAYS:
I think a "Quality tag" would be one of the best things you could have.
Also have a series of check boxes at the bottom to filter the maps.
Ex.
[] Quality only
[] Regulars only
[] Rated only
[] New releases only
[] Reviewed maps only
[] Screen shoted maps only
[] Members with overall good ratings only
[] Elites only
[] 50 + post members only
ETC...
