Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> What would have happened..
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2005-12-19 at 16:03:32
I have read that if dinosaurs had lived, then they might have evolved into a cold-blooded humanoid race. What are your opinions on what might have happened?
Don't forget technological advances, the state of the rest of the planet, etc.

I think that its possible that dinos would have evolved into humanoid beings.
I think of cold-blooded creatures (except frogs) as being more dangerous then most mammals, so I think lizard-style humanoids would be more powerful then we were. Life would be easier, but with easy life intellect decreases, so we would have been smarter, though they would have evolved faster.
The world would probably be more natural, mostly because for some reason I think of cold-blooded creatures as 'closer to nature'; I have no other reason for this statement.
We would have probably less technology, as before I stated I thought we would have been less intelligent.

I might only be saying this because I know how terrible humanity is rest to the rest of the world; (yes it is, overpopulation, pollution, global warming; I'm not saying its exactly bad, its mostly self-preservation, but those leaders in buisness who do it can be considered bad) and possibly if I was a cold-blooded lizard-style humanoid I would have thought the same about mammals if I had posted this under the topic 'What would have happened if dinosaurs had died'.

Oh, and here's a more interesting scenario: Would would life be like if both the Cold-blooded humanoids and warm-blooded humanoids (yes, thats you) had been alive? I know its almost impossible, its just something to think about and discuss.

I cant really see how they'd evolve into a humanoid race. We have plenty of animals that didn't do that. What's so special about bi-pedalism?

I doubt that would have happened; I mean, they were here for millions of years and barely produced the t-rex at their end time.

Neither did mammals. Though they were held back by the dinos.. Mammals had no chance against dinos back then, at the very least we would have been far behind what we are now.

No idea, but we did evolve this way. If it isn't special in any way, why was it us who became 'rulers of earth' (except the mice wink.gif )?

Oh, and this is discussion of what you think would have happened, its not just about people trying to disprove my theory..
I'm not against people disproving my theory/opinion, but state what you think would have happened.

Huge profits for the meat industry.

it'd be jurassic park, we'd keep em in cages.

There'd be a huge war and one of the species would be wiped out. Humans are too xenophobic to live with a different sentient species.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2005-12-19 at 16:41:27
I thought its something similar to that, they'd wipe each other out.
But how do you know who will win?
In the days of the cavemen if both species had been alive, they would have won. Nowadays if they were alive we probably would have won. It all depends who lives where.

But remember in Jurassic park that eventually the dinosaurs could not be contained. They bred all of the dinosaurs to be male so that they couldn't reproduce. But since those dinosaurs were made from frog DNA, they, like the frogs, could change their genders and so the dinosaurs reproduced and couldn't be controlled.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Centreri on 2005-12-19 at 16:47:50
Frogs could change genders?!
shifty.gif
Anyway, that wouldn't happen. If dinosaurs were not extinct, the human race probably wouldn't be here yet wink.gif

Someone's been watching too much Jurassic Park 3 and the Mario Bros. movie. tongue.gif

Humans are the most advanced in the primate spectrum of animals. Whales have their own track, as do birds, felines, plants, bacterium, etc. The dinosaurs at the end of the crestaceus (spell?) period were the prime examples of their various species. They were, in fact, in competetion with the growing mammal presence. Mammals were better able to survive the conditions that killed off the dinosaurs. There is evidence that dinosaur populations were in decline BEFORE the meteor - and whatever else happened - so I believe they would have died out anyways, but over a longer period of time than the crashing halt that the meteor brought.

But if they somehow DID manage to survive until now, I don't believe they would've developed humanoid features. What our species possesses now are the end result of developing traits that worked best for us, and they would've further developed in the ways that were best for them. Movies only bring fantasy and speculation. We have no way of knowing that dinosaurs would've learned to utilize tools and manipulate nature (such as creating fire) in order to outmatch evolutionary opponents. For instance, look at insects. They build advanced traps and colonize areas and even go to war with one another (I've heard that generals have studied the strategies employed by ants in their battles). What may have ended up working for dinosaurs does not necessarily mean that it would be similar to humans.

I'm seeing things differently now O.o
You took your time with that post. I must have refreshed 10 times or so.

But you should take into account that we didn't evolve exactly correctly. No other animal completely wins in all categories; we do in all except number. It's a mistake. A mistake that could have been repeated with cold-blooded beings.
Oh, and you said dinosaur populations were at a decline.. didn't the population decline at the end of every dinosaur era? Why do you think dinosaurs are seperated into time periods; they died out in one, for a few thousands/millions of years were few, then rose again in the next era.

I'm not going to be 'owned' that easy tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Doodan on 2005-12-19 at 18:24:03
I believe you're right about the decline at the end of each era, but mammals were only present at the end of the last era.

Humans are pitiful creatures. We're not very strong, we have no natural defenses, most can't live without shelter, we get sick easily. Evolution favored the development of our brains, most everything else has suffered. We are far from being "winners" in all the categories. Without the ability to use tools or wear armor, humans would easily lose in a fight with so many different species of animals (alot of species that are smaller in size). Brain development was best for us and that's why we got it.

this topic is based on evolution but i will post what i think would happen.

if dinosuars did exist they would greatly distrupt our growth technologically. dinosuars would be a very powerful foe especially the huge carnovours. althogh we would have weapons to defend ourselves i do not think they would work very well. especially against raptors. thier size make it easy to go into places like caves that large carnovouors cannot. thier speed would disable us from using spears efficiently and thier thinking capacity is very advanced. enabling them to work very efficiently as a pack.

there are also other things we have to worry about besides dinosuars. like prehistoric crocodiles, giant fish, etc.

i think we would still be in the stone age today trying to defend ourselves.

If dino's would have stayed alive we probally wouldnt be alive anymore because they would have killed us off before the advances we have made

If dinosaurs were still alive... that'd be the end of cats and dogs and birds. People would have little tricerotops and brachiosaurus' for pets. Either that or farmers would breed them like chickens and kill them for us to eat OR Bush would nuke them... cool1.gif

Were not best in all categories with our bodies, but look what we have created..
We have guns, swords, little lasers, nukes.. We're the best equipped animals in the world, except for the mice. They have spaceships the size of my thumb ermm.gif

Anyway, if you don't count that, why do we have so much brainpower? Look at what we've done; It's obviously a mistake. No one is perfect, and that includes evolution.

Actually, if Doodan is correct, we would probably just be behind. The dinos would have died down, and we would have started late.

You're speaking as if they had arrived right now; I'm saying what would happen if they hadn't died right now.
And, actually, we would probably have managed to hold out quite well. It would be much more dangerous, of course, but possible to survive.

Oh, and this isn't an evolution thread, it just turned that way since everyone started discussing my opinions. You're more then welcome to post what you think will happen as opposed to who will evolve when/how.

We are pitiful in many ways, yes. But we have one thing that makes us stand above the rest of the animal world - written language.

Anyvey, either we'd be dead, or dinos will be dead, or we will be far behind in terms of evolution.
Or all 3.
