The other day I saw a documentary about the military advancements in WWII. I thought to myself for a while and realized that there really is no point in better technology when it comes to warfare. When a better type of armor is designed, a weapon to counter it is designed, when a weapon to counter it is designed, a better type of armor is designed. All that we are really doing is making war cost much more, eventually war will just be some fancy billion dollar battle bots ripping each other into shreds.

World + People = Pointless?

War costs enough money as it is. It was usefull during the depression times to boost back the economy. You make a weapon in hopes that the other doest not create something that they can use to defend themself. It is a game of development and smarts.

If it's so pointless then go see if the afterlife (which there is none) is any better, untill then stop whining, you're fat, you're happy, you get to go to school.

We're civilized animals. Of course there's gonna be wars. Kill or be killed, that's a part of nature's way.

It's a never ending game of leapfrog. If you're in a war, and you realize you have the ability to make something that will pierce their armor, then you're gonna do it. If someone were to be apathetic about the nature of war and choose to do nothing instead of make the upgrade, then they'd die. It's an evolution of it's own sorts. Of course something will be made to counter it, the advantage can't last forever. But in order to survive, the change must be made at that time.

For a certain peroid of time, the advantage of the technology is undeniable.

yes eventually a weapon will come out to match that armor but they use the short period of time where that armor holds and advantage to use. and vice versa.

body armor saved hundreds of troops in iraq and afganistan. since the enemy is using outdated weapons like the Ak-47 we hold the technological superiority. therefore technology+war does not = useless

More Advance Tech. = More Deaths
When war strikes... its payday for manufactoring companies because they're being forced by the gov't to make weapons and tanks and jeeps and bullets while terrorists are making bombs then the gov't needs better bomb disarming equipment. Eventually... tanks and weapons are going to be so advanced that it will be IMPOSSIBLE to do anything or get ANYwhere. Then stronger NUKES come in and then you have a nuclear winter... At least there's gonna be no school...

But anyway, advances in technology "terrace" the playing field. Only countries with similar technology can hope to compete with each other in battle. Otherwise, it's just unfair (iraq, afghanistan). It also prevents the casual terrorist from being able to cause any amount of real chaos. It narrows the playing field, if you're looking for a metaphore.

Would you rather lay dying for an hour with a spear impaling you, or take a tank shell to the chest and feel about 1/4 a second of pain?

War is more sanitary now, I beleive.

When America went to Aphganistan, the Aphganis thought they were pretty bad cause they defeated the Russians and kicked them out.... So sometimes primative weapons can defeat superior weapons.

I mean a weapon is only as good as the person manning it.

Would you rather have your face burned off by a willie pete and die slowly from shrapnel piercing your innards, or a boulder smashing you in a second? War is the same, it just costs more.

But in the end there will always be a way to pierce new armor, or to disable new weapons, in the long run war just costs more.

thats not neccesarily true.... you can have a non mortal wound and slowly bleed to death. theres also the discussion about chemical weapons that the troops suffered in the persian gulf. then theres the radiation part about nukes. war never gets more sanitary

We won't use nukes any time soon, nukes are more likely going to be sent to mars to nuke the ice caps and warm the planet then against each other.

They are more like scare tactical weapon.

i dont believe terroristic orginizations will hold back. i wasnt talking about the US i was talking about war in general

I wouldn't say its pointless; We have nothing that can stop the more destructive modern weaponry, such as nukes. In the end, it will probably come to be an all offensive war, as opposed to offense/defense, because defense won't be as advanced, and has less capabilities.

Man must have power, power requires strength, weaponry, and land mass. countries will advance their weapons to ensure they are on top. build more nukes, use more money. Take control. Man will fight, and theres no changing that.
