Can i use xtra editor after i make a map in the program that your suggesting? I was altering a sunken 10 way map and it let me put down land with no ridges. I thought since it could put down land like that then theres would be a feature that i hadn't known about on xtra.

I think what you're missing is that Starforge is capable of making the realistic terrain as well. Just click the Isom button above the terrain pallet on the left, and select one of the realistic terrain squares. When making ground edges and cliff edges, I just draw some out on the map, then cut and paste sections of it using 'create brush' and then fit it onto the edges of my terrain.

If your talking about my reply l said that you could use either starforge is good but l think scm draft 2 is better as you have a much larger choice.

If you wern't talking about my reply just ignore this biggrin.gif

Those would be the easiest ways unless you use that old choppy Isom editor that makes 2x1 or 4x2... its totally random... It used to be used for bounds now people use SCM Draft n Starforge because the Isom editor sucks.

SF might be a bit complicated for him/her, and it's ISOM editor sucks balls, I'd go with SCM Draft 2, much easier to use. Once you make the square terrain you're looking for just save it and open it in X-Tra and make your triggers.

Basically... also SCM Draft has copy/paste/cut which helps a lot but after you use it once it screws up and pastes the first thing you copied/cut unless that only happens for me... And the 25%, 33%,66%,75%,100% views help make sure ure map is even and stuff. Its cool... I <3 SCM Draft.

My two favorite features are the zoom feature, and the randomize minerals feature, for melee maps, that really makes everything a lot easier.

Dont forget the map reavelers that are place at every section of the map in a single click so you dont have to worry about filling a 256x256 map with mr and it taking forever... But the randomize minerals are sw33t and so is the zoom... Like you said. But I dont think the player colors work like when you turn P1 from Red To Black or something. I tried using it but it doesnt work so now Ima have to re-install SF just to do it. disgust.gif

I would strongly reccomend StarForge. It isn't complicated at all if all you use it for is the terrain (though it'll bug you about start locations). All you need to make sure of is that you're using valid map dimensions - namely, 64,96,128,192 or 256 by 64,96,128,192 or 256.

There are some exceptions tho. Like Kenoli's Mini RPG... its like... 20x64 or something... But its one screen that goes up and down. I also made a 20x64 melee map that worked fine... But if you use like... 309x4000 and crap it'll crash SC so don't go trigger happy.

Yes, but remember he's doing most of his editing in SCXE - which can't open nonstandard sizes.

If he did it in SCXE then how the hell did he do it? Its a 20x64 somthing map. Check it and see here.

I was referring to the poster of this thread - who is doing most of his work in SCXE and therefore needs to use standard sizes in SF.

Yes it works, but it only works if you play a normal sized starcraft map as the first map you play after opening Starcraft. After then, you can play any size map you want, as long as its not over 256

Actually you won't crash as long as one of the map dimensions is a standard size. =P
