Staredit Network -> Melee Chat -> Simple Guide to Extend Bridges/Ramps

[sub]Ok, some people are having trouble making widened ramps and such, so I made this guide quickly to show an easy way to do it. It may not be the best and most accurate way, but it gets the job done. I will be using SF in this tut. First lets start with ramps.

1. Here we have a basic, boring, non widened ramp.

2. The first thing we want to do it take about a half of the ramp, and make it into a brush. So, firstly, drag your mouse to make a square around the area your cutting out.

3. After you draw the square, right click on the box and hit 'Create Brush'

4. This will open a window that displays your current brushes, that lets you drag around any brush you have made.

5. Place the half-ramp brush to the right/left of current ramp (Matters which way the ramp is facing, in this case, to the right.)

6. Now you will have a extended ramp, with only a few tiles missing.

7. This is the easiest way to do the next part, there are much better ways to fix the remaining tiles, but this way will get the job done, and not look that bad. Grap a few tiles from the old ramp, making a brush like you did last time.

8. And place that brush where the missing tiles are, completing the ramp. You may want to find a few tiles to try and fix it up to make it look better, but how it is atm is useable and will work just as well.

Ok, bridges are a bit harder, but for the most part, still fairly simple. But im tired right now, so your gonna have to wait on bridges. smile.gif[/sub]

I always used the 'custom brush' and pasted all over... this should be easier hehe

THANK YOU FOR WRITING THIS!!!

I've been tearing my hair out trying to get a ramp to look decent - a little blockiness won't kill anyone, but it needs to be decent.

Just used this in my (2)Stir Crazy map, it works pretty well. One add on, after you've placed the half of the ramp as far as you want away, instead of just using random tiles to fill in the ramp, continue the ramp from the side that you moved, just don't use the end pieces that are unwalkable, it worked pretty well for me.

nice guide.. even though i don't make melee maps.

Just because you have extended terrain, doesn't mean you have to make a melee map or does it have to be in a melee map.

[sub]Mind moving this to the other melee fourm and pinning it?[/sub]
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Falcon_A on 2006-04-23 at 20:26:16
Yeah, a lot of people just post in the showcase forum and don't seem to know how to do this...and it gets burdensome for val to post a link to his post every time someone says "i cant get the bridges right"

I must agree, it should be pinned. (Though I really don't know who even does that...MA? Do global mods even come in here? ;P)
