LISTEN TO IT FIRST(You may need to turn your sound up a bit sightly sorry

)
I was messing around, so I made a poll.

Its all about quality baby!

Well, if this is supposed to be the Über-large project that it is, no use making everything else high quality to be taken down by inferior sounds. Besides, something like this isn't probably going to be made in public B.net games, but instead most likely downloaded and played by this community. So go with the large high quality.
I'd pick the High quality...evem though i didn't listen to it (dial-up, I dun wanna download the damn sounds again

) and that higher-quality..is um..higher...duh..but also everyone else voted for high quality

Of course, this isn't going directly into the map. Its injected into your mpqs so you can play with other people. For the hell of it

High quality, mainly because it's going to be injected into the MPQ, and I want the high quality ones anyways. Anyways, Since they are injected into the MPQ, you might consider having them both. Might as well have more choice, 'eh?
oh...OHHH.....Ohh...I get it...I'm still not gonna download the sounds

I said no two versions. It takes up more space, and really, whats the point?
Higher quality.
And secksy voice, eh?
Lol, he sounds like a bum.

j/k
I voted low quality. The sounds in the maps are mostly just to create a mood or an impression. Unless the low quality version is disgusting then i would suggest sticking with low. You don't really need perfect sounds to get your point across.
The 3 meg differences is just for that sound right? How big is the larger sound, and how big are all the sounds combined.
I only ask this because if 3 megs is the difference for all the sounds combined and the map is 90 megs then your only sacrificing 3% of total for the compression (it wouldn't be worth it). But of course if the % of space saved is higher then the compression may be worth it.
If these music sounds were saved in the map, I'd agree with you. However, these ones are injected into your MPQ. Thus, high quality may be an advantage or it may not.
I voted low quality. If you want to be able to spread it via battle.net, that is.
MPQ's are very well known for their uber-awesome wav file compression. So give "high" a go. Seriously, a 3 meg wav file in an MPQ would be about half or less as much size.

I'll say it again: this applies to your mpqs. The sounds in the map will be 500kb and be low quality.
Whats the combined file size of all the music files for the mpq, High and Low Quality?
Low Quality - 60 megs uncommpressed
High Qual - Unknown
At this point in time I am not injecting MPQs and getting that information until I'm done a lot of the map.
I think it all depends on how big the differance is. If the high quality is like 90 or 100 megs then it is defently worth it to compress the wavs. But if the High is only 65 or 70 then might as well download the extra for the high quility.
High quality although it'll be a bit big for dial up ill still go high quality
Well first of all, these are details you worry about toward the end of the project, not the beginning. It's like building a model car: you worry about painting, polishing, stickers, etc. only after the main model is complete, as that is mostly the fun and easy part compared to the rest, and doesn't stand as a priority.
To answer your question, though, I'd say spare no expense and go for high quality... if it's not intended for normal bnet play, that is. However most people won't care too much whilst the game is in session about sound quality unless they can actually get a chance to pay attention to it (or else they're deliberately listening for it... which won't be the majority). If it's going to end up having to be downloaded from a site anyway, though, I don't think a few extra megs are gonna deter people much if it's already going to be a large download.
But as bolt said, if it's the difference between, say, waiting an hour to download or waiting a half-hour, then you might want to consider making it low qual for that case. This will have to be your judgment decision, though.

A demo is being released on the website soon with the music from one battle. I just wanted to mainly know what to put it in so everyone gets a real "feel" for what I'm doing.

You guys dont understand, the actual map is 500kb, the music is an addon and not required to play.

I understand that perfectly. But if it isn't a big deal haveing people download the extra hugh wavs, why are you asking us about compressing them in the first place. It isn't required to play as you said.
It takes up more space on your hard drive remember. Besides, I wanted to know if theres a noticible difference.
I personally dont think the size difference really matters. Whats a couple megs when it comes to quality. If it sounds better then use it, since this map is going to be a completely awesome project once finished it might as well have the best quality music along with it. I highly doubt anyone will really care about the slight increase in size.
Hey, add that "mpq inject" sounds into a mpq and use that program for make a self-executable mod. That would be the best way.
