1) Check the tutorials. SEN has an excellent, excellent batch of tutorials. If you need a clarification, quote the tutorial and bold the section you don't understand, then explain what you don't understand.
2) Search the forum. Likely, your question has been asked before - for example, a cash-for-kills question gets asked nearly every day.
3) If a trigger you made isn't working properly, set an action into each step to display 'trigger1worked' or something like that so you can isolate the problem. Often, it's a simple typo or the like.
4) Player 13+ units are NOT stable, do NOT try to use them in your map unless you want lots of bizzare buffer overflows. Players 9-12 are stable neutral players, however, and can be used for, say, a shop in an 8-player game.
5) Make sure you don't have any duplicate locations - this one can cause all SORTS of fun.
6) Try adding waits to triggers that can pause for a moment, sometimes this will solve problems like every level firing in a defense.
7) Make sure you aren't using any illegal (game-crashing) units or sprites.
8) Maps made in Starforge or SCMDraft can be badly screwed up if opened in StarEdit or it's variants.
9) Generally, someone who didn't protect their map will be somewhat open to a question about how they did something - if they were trying to keep stuff secret, they would likely have protected it.
10) USE. PROPER. ENGLISH. WHEN. POSTING. If you ask "leik onf maj msp ism'y eorlunh?!?!", no one will be able to help you.
Everyone should know that when they press the new topic button.
