Staredit Network -> StarCraft Editing Related -> UMS Melee Map?

I've been trying to find a sort of defense map where three humans are in a closed off base with one big openeing, stacked minerals, and you have to build just like you would in a melee map, only there are 5 computers set on insane AI. Object is just the same as melee, to kill the computers, but it sort of makes it so you have to learn how to defend better and what not too. I dunno if this has been done or not. Been trying to do it in StarForge and it's just giving me a hard time with the triggers. If it has already been done, then that would save me a lot of time trying to do it for myself.

try those "OMFG THE (insert units that mass in the map)" maps
and if u want a fun ffa (not really ffa but close) ums-melee map, then try phantom

well i'm not quite sure about that, i mean i there are probably several that i don't know about, but i personally play survival d.

not stacked mins, certain types of units attack you every couple of minutes, and all players need to cooperate to even come close to winning.

and i do have a map called something like kerrigans revenge, that's basically a big 4v4 comp ums mode , never actually cared to get too far in it because my friends and i play different ums type things. basically, if we want melee, we go melee. and if we want 3v5 comp or something similar, we just do it on melee...the insane AI though, never seen a comp build THAT good. except for those custom scripts i think i saw at www.starcraft.org in one of the databases, sorry i cant be more help, but i could send you a link to those two if you want.

survival d i actually haven't seen on the site, but it might be, it's ums obviously. gl with the idea though, it could be pretty fun, and i hope you continue and accomplish your goal with the map.

You posting this in the melee map discussion section is almost as bad as me putting my melee map in a ums forum wink.gif.

Anyway, in my experience, I've noticed that one out of three ums maps hosted on b.net are very similar to the ones you speak of (On US East). Take a look there...

Lol, sorry. The only reason I posed it in Melee is because the only reason I want a UMS is so I can run the Insane AI scripts and have human players in one area and comps in another. Otherwise it would be just normal melee, build, defend, kill.

How exactly do the AI Scripts work? Can I just set it right from the beginning so that all comps are Insane AI and then have them basically build up from nothing like in a regular UMS Map...only a lot more difficult?
Basically I guess what I want to do is set up two forces, humans and computers. Have all the humans in a base with one really big entrance and then all the computers outside in various places. Then I just want the game to be regular melee, only the computers are really really really fricken hard so it really requires the 3 humans to cooperate. Just something for friends and I to play together. UMS, but melee with crazy computers, no free units or free goodies, just straight up defend and kill the computers...just crazy computers.

I wasn't speaking hypothetically, I actually did accidently host a melee map of mine in a UMS thread. I wasn't trying to rag on you, so don't feel bad tongue.gif.

Oh no not at all.

I do have an update though from messing with the AI.

None of the scripts seem to work right :S. The Insane AI has a few of their computers sending units into my base (probes, not attackers) and then when the computers gather on any of the AI's after one or two returned cargo, all but one of the gatherers stops moving altogether and they don't do anything at all.

What is wrong? I want the insane AI so they will build and what not, but is there something I'm missing to get them to work right?

Sorry, I can't really help you with that because I know next to nothing about triggers (Melee map maker). But I can tell you that I have seen an insane computer. Somebody over there in Asia developed a computer that is practically unbeatable. Even the pros have a hard time with it. If you found out what he did, then maybe it might help your map.

Well I'm sure a pro is someone who doesn't play fast money lol. I actually think I know what I've done wrong. You can't place the trigger to anywhere because all the AI's try to overlap. That's my guess. I stole a map by someone else that already had a few computers designated as Insane. Then I edited the map. Three of the AI's work correctly, and 3 don't. And my friend and I had a little problem with them, but mostly no problem at all. If there were all six there we might end up losing. Two rows of turrets on the sides doesn't work as well as I would like. They hit fricken hard!
Anyway, it's just a matter of understanding how those AI scripts function and how to make them work and then I can do practically anything with them I think.
I would like to find that map though with the unbeatable computer. That would be amazing!
Anyway, thanks smile.gif
