Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> [SOLVED] maximum # of players question

Hello everybody,

I am new to this site, but I have been making starcraft maps for a long time. I never thought about this before, but I was wondering if it is possible to have more than 8 players in a game? For example, I like to play some maps with 2 teammates against computer (3 humans - 5 comps). I want to know if it is possible to play 3 against 6 or even 7 or 8. I got this idea from StarForge, which gives you the option of placing starting locations, buildings, and units under the control of players 9-12. If this is possible, can someone tell me how to do this? Thanks a lot.

There are 8 possible slots for human and computer players.

Players that are beyond 8 are mainly used for other purposes. There will never be more then 8 active players in a game, thus 4v4 is the max.

Usually its best to place starting units for is player 12 because they are the neutral computer (just be warned about placing burrowed units or cloaked units, because player 12 has zero tech). Don't try any computer past 12, you will crash the daylights out of your map.

I believe p 9-10 are spells and 11 is critters or something, something... -_-

Players 9-11 are hostile to everyone, so you can use them if you need a spare computer to kill something, but generally it's a better idea to try to avoid using them. Players 9-11 are not affected by triggers and therefore can't run AI Scripts or anything. They also don't have their own player slots so you can't use them in Melee games. It's best not to use the players unless you really need to.

Critters, resources, Disruption Web, and Dark Swarm are owned by player 12. I don't know if and for what StarCraft does with players 9-11, that would be interesting to look into.
