Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> Virginia: Innocents in prison
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Sie_Sayoka on 2006-01-07 at 03:22:35
Yeah so i saw on the news that one of the scientists that did the DNA testing for the state of Virginia still had evidence from previous cases. When she died other scientists tested the evidence and found that 2 people had wrongfully been imprisoned. this is because the DNA testing back then was not as accurate as the ones used today. this also may meen that some people that have been executed might be innocent. furthur testing on all of the evidences will be done.

one of the many reasons that execution is wrong.

This is the real world. Innocent people die all the time. Compared to other things, innocent people dieing from the american execution system is almost nothing.

Another flaw is that, those are old DNA testing systems. We're better now, so a conservative can easily say, "We won't make the same stupid mistake twice, because we got better technology now." Which is ironicially true.

Warner (soon to be Kaine) ordered that all the cases on death row have to go through DNA testing, which is nearly 700 inmates.

Would you rather pay taxes for food, warmth, and a place to sleep for 700 inmates for 40 years, or for 10 years (not to mention inmates who have commited atrosities towards the community. Eg. multiple rape/murder, pedofiles & molesters).

so innocent people are dying from being wrongfully imprisoned and executed and that is nothing. did it seem like nothing to the victim? or the family?

yes i would. its life>money inmates dont just sit in prison for thier term they actually work while in prison. your taxes are spent on stupider things than paying for a murderers supper.

What work do they do?

If you're so determined to stop innocent people from dieing, why not outlaw smoking? It kills 300+ people a day.

criminals do a variety of jobs like making liscence plates mostly factory work. some work 40+ hours a week and they get payed in cents.

smoking is the smokers choice. being sent to prison for a crime you didnt commit was not the suspects choice.

It still kills more, and you must at least SEEM guilty to be sent to prison.

In those 10 years, they have an unlimited number of appeals allowed so the government actually pays more for death row inmates.

Remember what happened when they banned alcohol? More people started drinking.

Besides, most excuted killers are proved guilty with more evidence than a DNA test.

Also you say that is one reason why execution is bad. Thats not a reason. Thats a misuse of the death penalty.
