Staredit Network -> Serious Discussion -> America's Economy
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2006-01-09 at 15:05:03
America has had, for many decades, the largest and/or strongest economy in the world. Things were looking even better for American dominance with the collapse of the Soviet Union, but then Japan became one of the prime competitors. Although Japan's economy seems to have taken a backward step for the moment, China has emerged as the greatest threat to America's foundation. With a population four times that of America, China can produce goods more quickly and cheaply than America. With a rapidly expanding economy, China is rapidly advancing in science and technology. They've already developed a 64-bit processor (albeitedly slow), and I think we may soon see a leapfrog effect where China uses current technology (developed by foreign companies) and their ever-growing technology base to become the prominent economy in the world.

Do you think America can still retain its edge in the coming years? How would you feel about being in the second richest country? What can America do about this?

I am not offering any of this as racism, but as a change that America is going to be forced to undergo.

We should have some tax cuts. Those always increase the economy, and in return gives more funds to the government anyway...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by CaptainWill on 2006-01-09 at 16:01:46
China currently has a much stronger work ethic than the West - things like minimum wage laws and employees' rights either don't exist or are at an early stage of development. This is key in China's growing dominance in terms of economy. I really can't see the West keeping up when China improves its manufacturing methods and such, and completes its slow but inevitable move towards capitalism.

Once China reaches capitalism (and hopefully, democracy) however, and its people become more prosperous and demanding, it will eventually develop things like minimum wage laws and its growth will stagnate.

The hell are you talking about? We had a $780,000,000,000 tax cut something like two years ago.

You can follow the deficit in DTBK's signature..

The only hope America has in making its economy better is by legalizing all drugs. I'm talking people put trillions of dollars into their addiction. Seriously, how would a drug dealer fill out his taxes? "Occupation: Drug Dealer" is a little shadey, don't you think? tongue.gif However, legalizing drug trades raises an ethical issue. Should America be allowing drugs into its economy that can potentially massacre the country? There are instances that one shot of Heroine can kill you, and Meth can burn a hole through your head. Yet people still sell them. So unfortunately, even thought it may be the only chance, its a stupid thing to do. Ethics pwns the economy.

Maybe legalizing one or two "safe" drugs would cut down on a whole host of them?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Sie_Sayoka on 2006-01-09 at 18:08:52
well at the rate that america is going now and the rate that china and japan are going i believe they will surpass america in a decade or less.

China is increasing in industry but more people are moving from the farmland to the cities. in the next generation this will lead to food sortages when the old die out. however if china does infact gain a better economy then it can import food.

One of Chinas biggest industries is its cars. although they lack in the technology to build a well built Japanese or european car they are teaming up with american companies to gain the technology for better grade cars. and if they do they can mass produce them accelerating faster than other companies.

what can america do.... create better quality stuff. in many american made things i see low quality and high quantity. the only reason is because they spend the least amount of money to create the products. if it wasnt for greed america would be better off. also since we have a mass imagration from mexico we should start making more factories over here instead of in china and taiwan.

another thing that will drastically help is to impeach bush and have him thrown in jail. the whole world hates him and it has affected our international policy.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TheDaddy0420 on 2006-01-09 at 18:29:03
Yeah, try ang create a law or bill that would make it increasingly difficult for an American company to build factories outside of the US. Try and bring back US companies back to America, that would increase many jobs.

Isn't China's population going to decrease very soon cause there are like no women? Cause I heard that in China most people want boy babies and will throw out their girls.

Well its hard for me to say this but I think America's economic power isn't going to last long, I think we may have a recession, but will soon be back on top, becuase we are Americans, we sort of have that nature in us to piss other people off. (Pride?)

I find that america's economy is falling behind, they arnt worrying enough about their citizens, they're voting the worst president AS president and making alot of very poor choices. i do hope in the future america can pull out of these bad habits?

Its this sort of blind pride I'm talking about. All the great presidents of whom have saved our economy so many times are gone. Our economy isn't going to pick itself back up and the people who have money just want more money and could care less about the economy as long as they make that extra dollar. If we go at the rate we're going, we're farked.

Noticing how you use the word: something, i'm going to assume that this is made up, and will ask you for proof.

Btw: All tax cuts in Bush's supremacy, have been for the upperclass.

Not all drugs you silly girl.

Marijuanna should be the only drug (if any) to be legalized.

Heroin kills.
Meth rotts your body.

Wasn't it our pride that got us during WW2 to be on top? Wasn't it cut throat business men and cheap people wanting to keep as much money as possible and mass produce at cheap prices? If you ask me, things were alot less forgiving back then, than now.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2006-01-09 at 21:19:33
Where do you come up with these assumptions?

WWII = Jump in economy because of all the war supplies being made.

There were no "cut-throat businessmen", or "cheap people" (Where the HELL do you come up with these dillusions???)

It was the war effort. Are ya to blind to realise that such a thing as American's working together, creates a surplus??

Henry J. Kaiser

http://www.worldwar2database.com/html/atlantic43_45.htm

By himself saw the need for more supply ships. He desgined and created cheap, mass produced liberty ships. He is cheap and he is a businessman.

Henry Ford

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Ford

Not quite during WW2, but still American, still cheap, still business man who created the assembly line as we all know. Mass production also.

So I geuss not QUITE WW2, but I was thinking of that generation of American thinkers and thats just two examples. I just want you to understand my thinking a little better happy.gif . They all did answer that call for WW2 supplies and all contributed to the rise of America...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2006-01-09 at 21:37:32
Hm... The first guy, as you stated, needed more Supply ships

Supply ships are for war, pal.

Mr. Ford created the assembly line and mass production, to pump out cars for the american people, so they could get around quicker. I see no problem in that

Still: Dillusions and Grandure.

I'm just saying how long it took us to develop a 64-bit processor compared to China (development time).
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2006-01-09 at 22:57:27
Ah.. Okay. That makes sense.

But when something has been created once, it's not hard to create another in a quicker amount of time.

Yeah, but still, the liberty ship builder man was still around BEFORE WW2. I am trying to talk about the MINDS behind the rise to power.

I actually don't think more competition will hurt America. It would help us to get off our lazy butts and work to retain our position. Then again, I could very easily see Americans still not caring. Just look at how poor the southern states are to the north.

This echos the civil war. Slaves were free but the majority of them had no money, houses, property, etc.. Which lead to the majority of the south being poor. And also the south was mostly destroyed or seized by the north...

We should just tax cigarettes and marijuana and we have ourselves a hella big tax pay.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2006-01-14 at 03:50:19
Cigarettes are already taxed...

Marijuanna needs to become legal, so we can use billions of dollars used to fight it, to fight the harder drugs.

make it legal and tax teh shiz out of it. and as kellimus said, use the money to fight the harder drugs.

i agree..

leaving this drug illegal is so dumb.. its just like alcool..

make both illegal or both legal.. and since the first choice is just stupid.. u wouldnt even need common sence to want it legal..

to those who dislike marijuana: what would it changes in ur life? legal or not people are smoking it.
