the first one all you have to do is match up the tiles...... it looks like you randomly placed them.

the second one is cool gj
Report, edit, etc...Posted by u_dunu_who_me_is on 2006-01-09 at 17:59:51
first one is an easy one... and is still kinda blocky. the second one is done over about a bazillion times, but still looks very well crafted. GJ for first.

well i couldnt really be org because i was just told by cloud what to make and i made it lol
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Freedawk on 2006-01-09 at 20:09:11
First one is, like everyoen said, the easiest. But the second one is a nice, polished one. First one blocky, but second one smooth.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Syphon on 2006-01-09 at 20:17:30
Both incredibly easy, and you couldn't even manage to pull the first one off!

4/10. Mostly for the smoothness of the second. (Even thoguh it's a doodad mirror.)
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Son) on 2006-01-09 at 21:03:47
like i said 1st try EVER i havent even experimented befor so thats prob why i couldnt pull it off maybe if i work at it more...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Syphon on 2006-01-09 at 21:48:16
What's your point? I was experimenting my first times tongue.gif
Report, edit, etc...Posted by WoodenFire on 2006-01-12 at 15:50:10
Ok... so many times I see the same problems.

Every other terrain maker I have seen can't even take the time to correctly place the double-tile standard that SC enforces with ground-open spaced tiles. If you look at Grass, Dirt, Ruins, Temple, anything in every tileset, every main tile ground-open tile has grouped numbers. 2, 2, 2, 2, etc...

Clearly, the SEN "Terrain" community, which consists of WoodenFire, Rantent, SS Dark-Marine, and very few others... who arn't...

...wait a minute, let me find a good, non-offensive word to use...

"Beginner" terrain artists, no one understands that you don't post screenshots of your terrain without making it look as naturally appealing as you see fit.

Each one of you "Beginners" could place a few doodads, some grass patches, some custom grass, custom rocky dirt, anything that shows a little more seniority.

I see no one spending an hour more making their blends actually blend in with the surroundings... Purpose?

If you just thought of a minute that, you are making terrain that no one will get inspired by, because you lack the skill required to come up with original material, and that you didn't finish blending, didn't add any doodads, etc...

I, I, I, I... I have been involved with SEN terrain forum for a while and all I see is the same *excuse my english, retarted pieces. First it was waterfalls, then it was mirrored doodads, now its horrably blended *crap.

Terrain is useless unless you use it in a map. No one cares about your pathetic "first trys," all you people are posting for is because you love having attention or some mental lack of completion?

I am not anaslysing anyone or anything... but I don't like the low quality, half-a$sed stuff that is being submitted...

I don't mean to flame, spam, or waste forum bandwidth, I only want to draw attention to this problem that I think many will agree apon... Sorry for this inconvieniance.

On another note. I plan on opening a Terrain thread that will be a "Terrain Maker's" Ladder, in which you submit terrain which is placed apon a ladder in which you can climb and fall. Don't think this is completely pointless! I will also give insentives to Join and Climb the ladder. If you reach the top, which will most likely be one of the more known terrainers, not me... I will not include myself! tongue.gif

I will start this program and I will also add in the first post, the ladder, and a Terrain Maker's Help. I will list pictures and information about making terrain. I will also have Q&As biggrin.gif...

There you go, that is how I plan on influencing and improoving the current terrain makers on SEN. Now... how will YOU help?

I like them about enough to rate them 1/10.

You enjoy using mirrored blends in these 2 pieces to get your "soft" effect. and you use sprites... ><

I like how the bottom 1 looks, very smooth... many of the blends could have been done better on the crack/water part. Good ideas thou... again.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Sie_Sayoka on 2006-01-12 at 17:41:03
yeah thats pretty good. i have experimented a lot with bridge terrain and i didnt think of using a mirrored effect horizontally(damn... why didnt i think of it?!) very good. keep it up

Nice terrain, bit blocky... Overall I think it looks pretty good. The last one you submitted looks decent. Try not to use sprites though. Other than that... 2+(4 Beginner Points)/10. Keep up the good work.

The first one you can pretty much do with normal terrain ><

That is a tad too easy to pull off. Maybe experiment more and try to become a terrain artist like Wooden tongue.gif

4/10 (Can't get higher than that :\)

This is truly the real reason why I don't post any of my terrain on sen, or post any of my maps with my terrain in it. Woodenfire would just blow you out of the water with his superiority um... complex. You need to be more friendly woodenfire. Sure everyone starts somewhere... they don't just start out pros... im sure your first works weren't so godly...

Nice work man. Its very pretty. No blocks! No blocks!
This is something that most newer terrain people aspire to. Keep up the good work. May you one day become a terrain expert.

If its a reoccuring problem, why not stop and help the general public? Its not nice to hold back other secret information to yourself. Why not make a tutorial for the terrain section? Its pretty much begging for it.

Wow, this is really surprising. Your first extended terrain is surprisingly good, cosidering the level at which most people start. My first "true" extended terrain that I can remember was a bit more ambitious, (though with more block) but this is a nice start you're got here. I'm not going to go correcting your mistakes/etc since at this stage there's going to be alot that you're not going to see. I have one suggestion for you: When blending a piece, look to make up colors AND the "grains" of a tile, the direction it's lines are going in (like the grains on wood). Also, I suggest making an isom base onto which your terrain will be placed, as keeping with the isometrical shape tends to be easier in the long run.
