Do we actually have to fill all map spotlight with winner maps every time someone hosts a contest? I mean, yes it is good to spotlight winners map. But why to add 2nd and 3rd place? We have one contest after another and spotlight is always filled with those winners. I just think it's not right because contests have time limitations and sometimes other rules, that makes the map quality limited. And why to add low quality maps to spotlight while we have better in DLDB?

Good example is Syphon's Staredit only contest. Yes Majesty was really worth it's place in spotlight and it was actually the only map that got good score from me judging. But the 2nd and 3rd place maps were just lame. Demolition arena: ok, the idea was somehow new but the map was so lame and boring, still it was in spotlight more than a month.

I just suggest to end this contest map madness and spotlight only the 1st place.

We haven't even seen if this will work yet. I would think it would be a better idea to try it this way, and if it tends to let lower quality (but more popular) maps to be in the spotlight, then it will be changed.

We haven't tried PCFredZ's map spotlight voting. I thought that's what you were discouraging, but I guess you were talking about the map MAKING contests. My mistake.

No, because the olympics are once in 4 years but map making contests are there all the time.

I agree with DEAD, Demolition Arena shouldn't have really gotten a spotlight, but some 3rd place maps actually deserve it.
I also think his [GTA classic] map should be on the spotlight. It's a pretty quality map.

Because we don't have anything better to spotlight? To the best of my knowledge, the DLDB's new submissions are not overwhelmingly good.

You want better maps in the spotlight? Close this window and open StarEdit.

I think that the map spotlight should not have the best current maps, it should have the best maps. Maybe replace something that's been on there for a long time with something a bit lower quality once in a while for the sake of variety.

Whats the point. If I make a good map, it gets into spotlight and the after 2 days stupid contest winners just push it out. I just ask you to think before spotlighting all contest winners after each freaking contest.

Huh? Maps "pushed out" by contest winners have been up there forever. We are looking for new things to put up there, not pushing aside other new and worthy submissions.

Not neccesarily

Just, we had contest winners in spotlight till 6th, then 2 days and another contest winners came, and what I see? Another freaking contest! Why do the maps deserve to be in spotlight if they didn't even win? And yes we have better recent maps in DLDB.

Sorry about GTA Classic, DEAD. Let a longer stay in the light of fame go to StarFort instead.

GTA Classic was on Spotlight for 2 days. DEAD wasn't giving an example, he was speaking from personal experience.

Yes... not realizing that the contest winners were going on the spotlight, I updated it with GTA Classic. blushing.gif

If it were up to me, I'd have spotlight maps randomized, which I believe it was. That way I would find maps I would never find by digging through the DLDB. Not that it matters, but I believe I was one of the first, if not the first to ask YtS about map spotlights.

I believe you're thinking of the Random Map feature.
