Has anyone had this before? I can't save any of my work. Error keeps popping up when I try to save, save as, etc. saying" Could not open file 'blahblahblah' for writing.
Any help?
The last additions I made were just some new locations, create single units at location and display message.
This had happened to me many times before, but it does save your map even though it says the "Can't open file for writing"
ah, k I'll close and see if it saved changes >.<
ADDITION:
argh! It didnt save changes and now it wont let me open it either ...getting some effed up messages, in a weird language lol
Well at least it let me open an older backup I had. Lot of work got lost though >.<
it has to do with something corrupted, if you saved it before, but accidentally deleted while editing, it wont let you save. If you edited through a third party editor, i mean MADe with, it has some chance a error is there.
.
If you had sounds in the map, then opened the map in StarForge and saved, then you will encounter this error. Try making a back-up copy, then opening the back-up in WinMPQ and deleting the listfile.
If you didn't use StarForge while the map had sounds, and didn't add sounds with it, then this problem is not something I am familiar with, it may indeed be corrupted, but it won't have corrupted by itself.
Does it fail to open with all editors? X-tra?, SCMD 2, StarForge 2, ubeR@TiOn?, SCMD 1?
You saved a sound in starforge... Solution:
(make sure you aren't using the map in starcraft).
1. Open the map in starforge and attempt to save it. It will save.
2. Open the map in Staredit (or xtra-editor), try to save, you will get an error, "cannot be written.... etc."
3. Open the map again in starforge. It will throw strange messages at you. Attempt to save it again it will save.
4. Open the map in Staredit (or xtra-editor) again, and try to save. It will save.
Done.
After this it will wipe all the sounds out of your map and it will be striken clean.
However, the strings from the wavs cannot be deleted and will remain in the map. Don't delete the strings or it will crash your map. The triggers that retain the wav strings will remain in the trigger and will have no effect. They aren't there. If you reimport the sound back into the map it will take the place and will work in the trigger.
From now on, only import sounds at the end and never in starforge.
