Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Unprotecting my Proedit map
Report, edit, etc...Posted by tomduo on 2006-01-25 at 17:20:34
I protected my map with proedit and popped the protected one on a forum. This happened right before my HD burned out, and I didn't have a backup of the completed map, just a barebones previous version with no pretty terrain.

I protected the map with a password, yet now I notice that I cannot unprotect the map with said password. Can I protect it, and if not, what is the password for?

Most people would say you lost it. Unprotecting maps is a nasty business, and from what I have heard, you lose your location names and such, as well as comments and other useful strings for a map maker. Now, I'm not sure 100% how to unprotect maps, but you have to know something about hex editing and such to be able to do such a thing. You also need a hex editing program, and winmpq. If you REALLY still want to unprotect your map, you need to make a base map, protect it, and find out how it protects the map, then go back in to your passworded map, and change ALL the code that was used in the protection. This could take weeks for you to do correctly if you don't have the will to spend a lot of time on it.

I think you should just remake the map, and make sure you know how to unprotect it yourself later (or keep a backup copy). If you don't want ANYONE to unprotect it, use UbEr@tIoN, since that will probably take way to much effort to unprotect.

Also, sorry if I stepped over the rules of the forum in this post, I checked the faqs, which had nothing about unprotecting in them.

I could do that, however it doesn't solve the question of why Proedit makes you put a password when you protect a map. Unprotecting Proedit maps aren't that hard, just intensive, of which I'd choose not to do unless absolutely neccessary.

When you protect a map, make sure you save it as a different file. Other than that, I can't supply you information about an unprotector tongue.gif

PROEdit does not have a password when protecting. The only program with password protection/unprotection I believe is SCMToolkit or something. An extremely outdated program.

SEN does not support unprotection. Sorry.
