The question is, do you really care enough to protect your maps so that "map stealers" can erase your name and put their name on it? If you want to keep it that way, then you might as well not release your map, because no protection is 100% safe. However, there is a program that apparantly can unprotect Proedit maps. Starforge is probably the same way, and Guedit is definately unprotectable.
Now if you just want to keep your version from newbies opening up the map, changing something, then saving, forcing everyone to download a new version, go with whatever is easiest. These alleged "map stealers" must be crazy to try and steal maps because most good maps are made on forums, and the original copy would probably spread faster than the modified copy...
All that being said, Proedit is very easy to protect with, but uBeR@TiOn is a better protection.
To protect in uBeR@TiOn, run it, open the map (top left big button) in your starcraft maps folder (generally C:\Program Files\Starcraft\Maps). Then make sure you save as (top right big button) and save it as a different map name. Then, use the uBeR@Te button under the Open button that says protection right above it. Now you can feel secure in your map not being stolen and credit always goes you and you alone.
Good luck.
