why the hell do flag beacons create a flag in a random amount of time, what was the purpose of this, why is it this way? and what did blizz use it for and why?
ill appreciate your answers tongue.gif and actually i forgot another question i had but i might remember oh and o-0 im posting tongue.gif i've waited for u too much time tongue.gif

The purpose is in CTF melee games there is a flag beacon. It makes flags. It just does that.

Ever played CTF game? Like the game mode? THe flag is supposed to spawn after a time, not sure why tongue.gif

I'm not sure what the flag beacon and the flag is for. The only guess I have is that once the flag is there you can't move the beacon anymore. Since you can move flag beacons once and then wherever you move it to it stays there. Still not sure though... ermm.gif

lol
and no i have never played a ctf so you are telling me that it creates a flag so you can pick up or something like that the flag in a ctf game?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Demaris on 2006-01-29 at 20:05:25

Yeah, In a ctf game you take their flag and bring it back to your beacon.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Corbo(MM) on 2006-01-29 at 21:33:17
ok ok so what would it be a cool use for that?
how can we improve blizzard's g.yness and take it to the maximun expression
by just using a randomly created flag? the only thing i can thing of a reallyt bored game called "sudden death" were you just stare at the beacon saying there will be a prize to the last one who stays and when the flag is created BOOM game crashes tongue.gif so fun

Ehh yeah prob for the Ctf mode but its pretty pointless people only play ums, melee, Top vs bottom and ladder anyway

yeah, that's why i want to know more uses for it becuz comon
i make a poll of how many ppl likes ctf or has played more than 10 times in their whole sc life and out of what...more than 500 members of sen like the 12% will say yes and from that 12% 8% are lying tongue.gif
comon more uses dont make me make my crash game tongue.gif

The timer isn't random, I beleive its eleven minutes. I've played ctf a few times, what happens is you build a base, and try to stop other meleers from stealing your flag with their workers after 10 minutes. During the first 10 minutes, the flag beacon can be moved by using "place COP", after that the flag spawns, and place COP goes away.
As for actual uses for this, I suppose you could use it as some kinda weird physical timer.

A wierd physical timer that works after 11 minutes. >_>

Without CTF, there would probably only be one type of beacon, so I'd personally rather be grateful for the 3 extra units smile.gif

So ya... as far as purpose goes.. capture the enemy's flag, get it back to your beacon, you win. Place COP can only be done in explored areas, of course. Most of the time it is just easier to kill them off the normal way, though.

Is there any way to change the time?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by fritfrat(U) on 2006-01-30 at 19:33:21
No, there is no way to change the time. This can be somewhat played around with by creating new flag beacons, I suppose...

Would, just placing a flag on the beacon stop the player from COP. I hate people when they move it. LOL

Not that I know of...

Flag beacons can be moved until ten game minutes have elapsed.
When ten game minutes have elapsed, the "place COP" function is disabled and a flag is created on all flag beacons.
These apply regardless of when the flag beacon was created, whether there are units (incl. flags) on top of the beacon at the time, or how many flag beacons there are.

I'm not sure about whether flag beacons created after ten game minutes have a flag or not... I suspect not. Disabled flag beacons still create flags after ten minutes; I don't think they can be moved though.

So there's no way of changing the time during which flag beacons can be moved.

If you have a small number of flag beacons, you can place a location over each one; then if a player moves a beacon out of its place, then you can remove all the flag beacons and recreate them in their correct positions.
